Ghorepani-Poon Hill trek is the perfect introduction to trekking adventure in Nepal. Without having to gain much elevation or embarking on a physically strenuous hike, this short trek in the Annapurna region allows trekkers to enjoy one of the grandest panoramas of mountains in the world. This panorama also includes the 7th (Dhaulagiri 8,167m) and the 10th (Annapurna I 8,091m), highest mountains in the world. However, apart from these two towering peaks, trekkers can also see other stunning peaks like Tukuche, Thapa Peak, Nilgiri-South, Central and North, Tilicho Peak, Patal Hiunchuli, Annapurna South, Baraha Shikhar Chuli, Singu Chuli, Tharpu Chuli, Tare Kang, Gangapurna, Annapurna III, Gandarwa Chuli, Machhapuchhre, Mardi Himal, Annapurna IV, Annapurna II as well as Lamjung Himal. Additionally, the settlements of Ulleri and Ghorepani allow trekkers to delve into the authentic Magar (ethnic group in Nepal) culture, tradition and lifestyle in Nepal.
Ghorepani Poon Hill trek is a short trek in the Annapurna region in Nepal. It only takes two days to complete the trek. The journey starts with a drive from Pokhara to Ulleri. From Ulleri, the trekkers will trek to Ghorepani, spend a night there and hike to Poon Hill the next morning for a mountain sunrise view. After enjoying the morning hike and the view, the trekkers will return to Ghorepani for breakfast, then hike down to Ulleri to catch a vehicle back to Pokhara and end the trekking journey.
However, our 7 days Ghorepani-Poon Hill trekking package starts with your arrival in Kathmandu and ends with your departure from Kathmandu. You will spend 3 nights in Kathmandu, 2 nights in Pokhara and one night in the Annapurna region. 2 days will be used to transfer you from Kathmandu to Pokhara and back and you will spend one day taking a tour of the Kathmandu Valley, in which you will visit UNESCO World Heritage sites. Although Poon Hill is the major attraction of this trip, the additional tourist attractions in Kathmandu and Pokhara add more charm to the Ghorepani-Poon Hill Package and value to your money.
Ghorepani-Poon hill hike is an easy hike and is suitable for all age groups. Since this is a short trek, it is also suitable for people who are on a short vacation and are looking for a short non-strenuous trek that presents great mountain views. This trek also makes a perfect choice for student groups and those who are planning a trek during off-season.
You only need a week's holiday for this trip. Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu Welcome to Nepal. Upon arrival in Kathmandu, one of the company representatives will meet and greet you at the airport and transfer you to your hotel booked for you in Kathmandu in a private vehicle (car/jeep/minivan/bus- depending on the group size). After reaching the hotel, this representative will also help you with hotel check in formalities. After a short rest at the hotel, in the afternoon, one of the company representatives will meet you at the lobby of the hotel for trip briefing, in which you will also be introduced to your guide who will check your trekking equipment. After meeting you can spend the evening at leisure. Overnight in a hotel in Kathmandu. If your flight is delayed, scheduled to arrive late in the afternoon, evening or even at night, the meeting will be held the following day, after the city tour.
Day 02: Kathmandu Valley sightseeing tour Breakfast at the hotel and your city tour guide will pick you up from the hotel around 9:30-10:00 am for the Kathmandu Valley sightseeing tour. You will visit 4 UNESCO World Heritage Sites, namely, Pashupatinath, Swayambhunath, Boudhanath and the Kathmandu Durbar Square. All of these sites hold great cultural, historical, religious and architectural significance. After the tour your guide will drop you back to your hotel in Kathmandu for overnight stay. Instead of the above mentioned sites, you also have an option to choose Bhaktapur Durbar Square, Patan Durbar Square and Chandu Narayan instead. Moreover, if there are any other specific places that you want to visit on this day, let us know in advance and we will make the arrangements accordingly. Meals: Breakfast
Day 03: Drive to Pokhara (200kms) Breakfast at the hotel in Kathmandu and you will start your journey to Pokhara in a private vehicle (car/jeep/minivan/bus). Pokhara is located 200 kilometers west of Kathmandu. The drive will be on the Prithvi Highway and provided that the road conditions are good and not affected by highway traffic, you will reach Pokhara from Kathmandu in about 6-7 hours. It’s a very scenic drive and the highway runs first along the Trisuli River and then along the Marsyangdi. The view of the terraced farms, hamlets, green hills, mountains all make the drive very interesting. Since the vehicle is a private vehicle, you can stop for lunch and short toilet breaks if and when needed. Once in Pokhara, you will check into the hotel and you can spend the evening either resting at the hotel or taking a pleasant walk around the lake area. Going on a boat ride is also a very good way to spend a relaxing evening in Pokhara. Overnight in a hotel in Pokhara. Meals: Breakfast
Day 04: Drive to Ulleri (1960m/6430ft),(4h) and trek to Ghorepani (2860m/9,383ft),(7km),(4h) Your trek to Ghorepani starts today after breakfast at the hotel in Pokhara. You guide will come to pick you up at your hotel after breakfast. The trailhead of the trek is Ulleri, therefore, from Pokhara, you will drive to Ulleri. It’s a pleasant drive on Pokhara-Baglung till Nayapul. From Nayapul, leaving the highway you will drive to Birethanti. You will stop for some time here for conversation area entrance facilities, which your guide will take care of. After the formalities, you will continue to drive to Ulleri, a very beautiful Magar Village that also greets you with a very mesmerizing views of Annapurna South and Hiunchuli. From Pokhara, it take about 4 hours to reach Ulleri. In Ulleri, if you are hungry, you will have your lunch. If you are not hungry, you will continue your trek to Ghorepani. Located roughly 7 kilometers north-west of Ulleri, the hike to Ghorepani takes about 4 hours. The hike is mostly a gentle ascent through the forest of Rhododendron and Oak. Walking past Banthanti and Nangge Thanti. Soon you will reach Ghorepani. In Ghorepani, you will check into the lodge and you can spend the remaining time at leisure. Day 05: Hike to Poon Hill (3193m/10,475ft) and trek to Ulleri (1960m/6430ft) (2-3h) and drive to Pokhara Poon Hill is one of the best viewpoints in the world to view mountain sunrise. It takes roughly 45 minutes to 1 hour (depending on your pace) to hike to the viewpoint of Poon Hill. Therefore, you will start this day one hour before sunrise. The top greets you with a mesmerizing panorama of Dhaulagiri and Annapurna range. This panorama also includes 7th and the 10th highest mountains in the world. The other peaks that you can see from here are Tukuche, Thapa Peak, Nilgiri-South, Central and North, Tilicho Peak, Patal Hiunchuli, Annapurna South, Baraha Shikhar Chuli, Singu Chuli, Tharpu Chuli, Tare Kang, Gangapurna, Annapurna III, Gandarwa Chuli, Machhapuchhre, Mardi Himal, Annapurna IV, Annapurna II as well as Lamjung Himal. Spend some time enjoying the view and taking pictures, before hiking down to Ghorepani. In Ghorepani, you will have your breakfast and start your return journey. You will retrace the steps to Ulleri, which take around 2-3 hours. You will have you lunch in Ulleri and from Ulleri you will drive to Pokhara. In Pokhara, we will drop you back to your hotel and you can spend the rest of the afternoon and evening at your leisure. Overnight in a hotel in Pokhara. Meals: Breakfast and Lunch
Day 06: Drive to Kathmandu (200 kms) Breakfast at the hotel and you will start your return journey to Kathmandu in a private vehicle (car/jeep/minivan/bus- depending on your group size). You will reach Kathmandu in about 6-7 hours provided that the road is in a good condition and not affected by highway traffic. In Kathmandu, you will check into the hotel and in the evening, one of the company representatives will meet you for farewell dinner and feedback. Overnight in a hotel in Kathmandu. Meals: Breakfast and Farewell dinner
Day 07: Departure day Breakfast at the hotel and as per your airport reporting time, you will be transferred to the airport to help you catch your onward flight. Meals: Breakfast
