Day 01: Fly to Paro and drive to Thimpu

Paro Altitude: 2250m

Thimpu Altitude: 2350m

Distance: approx. 50kms

Time taken: 45 min

As per your flight reporting time, we will pick you up from your hotel and drop you off at the Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu. After the airport formalities, you will fly to Bhutan.

 

Welcome to Bhutan. Upon arrival at the Paro International Airport, after a very scenic flight, and Visa/Permit formalities, you will be received by our company representative in Bhutan and together you will drive to Thimpu, the capital city of Bhutan. On the way, you will pay a quick visit to Tachogang, also known as Tachog Lakhang, which means 'the Temple of the Hill of the Excellent Horse'. This temple was built by the legendary Thangtong Gyalpo (1385-1464), who is also said to have built 58 iron chain suspension bridges, 60 wooden bridges, 118 ferries, 111 stupa monuments, and countless temples around Tibet and Bhutan. Once in Thimpu, after checking into the hotel, lunch, and a short rest, you will set out to explore the local market or explore Thimpu’s street food. You will get back to the hotel for dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 2: Thimphu Sightseeing and Phajoding Hike

Breakfast at the hotel and you will set out on a hiking trip to Phajoding Monastery founded in the 13th century by a Tibetan lama who spread the Drukpa Kagyu teachings of Buddhism in Bhutan. It’s about a 6.9km walk and the time taken to complete this hike is about 3.5-5 hours. You can enjoy the panoramic views of Thimpu. 

After the hike, if time permits you will drive to the ruins of Kuensel Phodrang, where amidst the ruins is built the Great Buddha Dordenma (the largest statue of Shakyamuni Buddha in Bhutan celebrating the 60th anniversary of the fourth king Jigme Syngye Wangchuck. You will then visit the Memorial Chorten and Changangkha Lakhang. You will then get back to the hotel for dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 3: Thimphu Hike to Lungchutse

Breakfast at the hotel and you will drive to Dochula Pass. From here you will start your hike to Lungchutse. This is a relatively easy hike between Thimpu and Punakha that starts past the Buddhist shrine at Dochula Pass (10,000ft) and continues to Lungchutse Monastery. It takes about 3-4 hours to complete this hike (round-trip). The trail is mostly used by horses, cattle, and yaks. The reward when reaching the monastery is the panoramic views north of Bhutan’s major peaks which range from 22, 000-24,000feet in elevation. After the hike, you will drive back to Paro for dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 4: Hike to Paro Taksang (Tiger s Nest)

Breakfast at the hotel and you will go on a full-day hike to the iconic Paro Taktsang (Tiger’s Nest) monastery. From your hotel you will drive to Ramthangkha, to start your hike to Taktsang Monastery. About 2 hour hike will take you to the cafeteria and the viewpoint, from where, you can enjoy the stunning view of the monastery, where Guru Padmasambhava landed on the back of a tigress in the 8th century. After a short rest at the cafeteria, about 1.5-2 hours hike will take you to the Tiger's Nest Monastery. You will visit the temple and hike down to the cafeteria for lunch. After lunch, you will further hike down to the trailhead to end your hike.

In the afternoon, you will go for a hot stone bath. This traditional Bhutanese practice is known for its therapeutic benefits, helping to relax muscles and relieve stress. Enjoy a rejuvenating hot stone bath session. You’ll soak in a wooden tub filled with hot water and medicinal herbs, with hot stones to further enhance the therapeutic effects. You will then get back to the hotel in Paro for dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 05: Departure

Breakfast at the hotel and as per your flight reporting time, you will be driven to the airport to catch your flight to Nepal. In Nepal, one of the company representatives will help you transfer from the airport to your hotel in Kathmandu.
