Day 1: Arrive Paro - (2250m/7382ft) Welcome to the Kingdom of Bhutan. Upon your arrival at the Paro Internation Airport in Paro, one of the company representatives will be awaiting your arrival. The same person will transfer you to the hotel booked for you in Paro, in a private vehicle. After a short rest at the hotel, the ultimate tour starts with a visit to Rinpung Dzong. This Dzong or Fortress or Monastery of Drukpa Lineage of the Kagyu school built in the 16th century, now houses government administrative offices and the district Monastic Body of Paro Dzokhang. After the Dzong, we will head towards the oldest monastery in Bhutan, Kichu Lakhang, which is located at the distance of 5 kms from the Paro town. Drugyal Dzong or the Victory Fort built in 1649 is the last destination of the this day tour. After visiting this Dzong, we will get back to the hotel for overnight stay. Overnight in a hotel in Paro. Day 2: Hike to Tiger's Nest Monastery, Drive: Paro-Thimphu (2320m/7610 ft): 1 hr/54 km
After breakfast hike to Taktsang (Tiger's Nest) Monastery - Bhutan's most famous monastery situated at 3180 meters above sea level. Guru Rinpoche (spiritual master) is said to have flown on the back of a tigress to meditate in a cave where Taktsang Monastery now stands. The monastery is perched on the edge of a steep cliff, about 900 meters above Paro Valley. After having explored the monastery, hike down to the valley and continue drive to Thimphu, the capital of Bhutan for overnight stay.
Day 3: Thimphu Sightseeing
In the morning we visit to the King's Memorial Chorten (built in memory of the third King of Bhutan who reigned from 1952-1972), the radio tower (for a great view of Thimphu Valley and the Thimphu Dzong), and the zoo. Then we visit the nunnery temple, the National Library (which houses ancient manuscripts) and the National Institute of Traditional Medicine. After a relaxing lunch, you will visit the Textile Museum, the Handicraft Emporium, the traditional paper factory and the majestic Tashichhodzong. In the evening, you may enjoy strolling through Thimphu town and absorb the life style of the people at Thimpu. Stay overnight at the hotel.
Day 4: Hike to Lungchutse/Trashigang Goenpa, Drive to Punakha (1250m/4100 ft): 2-3 hrs/76 km
After breakfast in the morning, scenic drive to Punakha with a stop for tea at Dochu La (3,100 meters), where on a clear day you can get spectacular views of the Himalayas. From 108 chortens the trail gradually climbs into red, white and pink rhododendron forest with some steep sections before branching left to Lungchutse Monastery. From the pass, drive downhill through the forests of rhododendron, fir and hemlock. Traverse through rice field and driving along the bank of the Punakha River, we arrive at Punakha. On the way, stop at Metshina Village and take a 20-minute walk through the rice fields to Chimi Lhakhang, which is a fertility temple dedicated to the Divine Madman or Lama Drukpa Kuenley. If you wish, receive the blessing from the Lama`s wooden phallus! Overnight hotel in Punakha.
Day 5: Hike to Khamsum Yulley Namgyel, drive to Paro: 4 hr/140 km
Morning drive to north of Punakha for about 12 km. From the road point you will hike to Khamsum Yulley Namgyal Chorten, which is located on a beautiful hillock called Ngezergang. It contains elaborate paintings dedicated to old sect of Buddhism. Hike back to Punakha. On the way back, visit the Punakha Dzong, stunningly situated in between the male and female rivers like an anchored ship. Drive back to Paro for overnight stay.
Day 6: Depart from Paro
After breakfast at the hotel, proceed to airport for final departure. Flights from Paro especially Druk Air departs in the early morning to avoid adverse weather conditions. Therefore, after taking breakfast, we transfer you to the airport in the morning to catch your onward flight
