Gokyo Valley is one of the most beautiful valleys in the Khumbu region of Nepal. Encompassing Gokyo Lakes - the freshwater lakes located at an altitude of 4,700-5,000m above the sea level, Ngozumpa glacier - the longest (22mi) glacier in the Himalayas, Gokyo RI (5,630m) and a small Gokyo village; the valley forms a perfect replica of a Heaven on Earth. The valley also greets you with the view of 27 snow-capped peaks in the Everest Himalayan region including 4 major peaks – Mt. Everest, Mt. Makalu, Mt. Lhotse, and Mt Cho Oyu – all towering above 8000m from the sea level.

Moreover, this place is equally important for Hindu and Buddhist pilgrims. In August, during the Janai Purnima festival, devotees come to take a holy bath in one of these Gokyo Lakes and visit the temple of Lord Vishnu and Shiva situated at the western corner of the lake. Therefore, this place is one of the favorite destinations of both trekkers and devotees.

Also, commonly known as Gokyo Lakes Trek, Gokyo RI trek, or Gokyo Valley treks, this trek to Gokyo is more than the experience of the lakes, mountains, and glaciers. Covering some of the major highlights of the Everest Base Camp trek, our 15 Days Gokyo Valley trek itinerary provides an opportunity to experience pristine villages, beautiful Lukla, Phakding, and Namche, monasteries, and extinct species of plants, animals, and birds in the Sagarmatha National Park en route.

Spring (March-May) and Autumn (October-December) are considered the best season to plan your Gokyo Lakes trek. Nevertheless, depending on your convenience, this trek can be planned at any time of the year. A perfect Gokyo Valley trek demands good health, physical fitness, strong determination, and a minimum of two weeks' holiday. Normally, the itinerary is designed for 15 days; however, Amigo Treks and Expedition can fully customize the package to your requirements, ensuring competitive rates, a fixed departure date, and the best group discount. Moreover, if you are looking to spend some more challenging days in the Himalayas of Nepal, try Everest Base Camp Trek with Gokyo Lake and Chola Pass. From day one, you will be guided by a knowledgeable, licensed, and experienced on-site and off-site team.

The journey starts with a scenic flight to Lukla from Kathmandu. The walk begins from Lukla using the same trail used by trekkers heading towards the Everest Base Camp till Namche Bazaar. From Namche, we walk towards Kyangjuma, pass Dole and Machherma and eventually enter the Gokyo Valley. We follow the same route to return.

Gokyo Valley Trek Review(s)

4.9 out of 5 Based on 1 user reviews.

What a perfect tour and organization!

Ratings:

First of all we'd like to thank Amigo Treks & Expedition - and especially and above all Niti Sharma for the perfect organization of our trip. She was so helpful in adjusting the trip to our wishes and requirements, always patient and communicative, even when we had to reschedule to whole expedition by half a year. Arriving to Nepal everything was prepared, everything worked out as it should and the whole team was more than friendly and helpful - overall very professional.

On the tour itself, well, what can we say: Hari Adhikari: He's been such an excellent guide for us. Intelligent and funny, leading us from Kathmandu via Lukla onto the Gokyo Trail up to Gokyo Ri. We couldn't complain about anything. Every single day Hari Adhikari was in best mood, hiking with us from 2.700m up to 5.357m - always being there for us, answering all our questions, organizing everything we asked for.
Everyone did his best so we could concentrate on the beauty of the nature, the hiking, the landscape and the amazing people that we've met on the trek. Special thanks also to our three porters Issur, Manut and Shandra! We cannot imagine how they did that. Carrying all the luggage up to almost 5.000m: You are incredible!

Thank you! We'll hopefully come back soon!
