Your journey begins in Kathmandu, the lively capital of Nepal, and takes you through the spectacular Himalayan mountains. You'll drive to the Sino-Nepal border at Rasuwa Gadi and then enter Tibet. After acclimatizing the beautiful Gyirong Valley, you'll continue to Everest Base Camp, where you can enjoy close-up views of Mount Everest, the tallest mountain in the world.
Next, you'll travel to Shigatse, Tibet’s second-largest city, where you'll visit the historic Tashilhunpo Monastery, home of the Panchen Lama. The tour then takes you to Gyantse, where you can explore the famous Pelkor Monastery and Kumbum Stupa. You will also visit the stunning Yamdrok Lake, one of Tibet's most sacred lakes, surrounded by snow-covered mountains. Day 1: Kathmandu to Rasuwa Gadi The adventure begins with a drive from Kathmandu to Rasuwa Gadi, located on the Sino-Nepal border. Departing early in the morning, you will be picked up from your hotel in Kathmandu. The drive, approximately 130 kilometers and about 7 hours takes you along the southern side of the Himalayas, offering stunning views of snow-capped mountains, dense forests, and scenic valleys. The journey passes through Langtang National Park, where you may encounter various wildlife and enjoy the region's natural beauty. Upon arrival in Rasuwa Gadi, you will check into your hotel and rest for the night, preparing for the border crossing into China the next day. Overnight stay will be at the River Bank Hotel or a similar accommodation.
Day 2: Rasuwa Gadi to Gyirong After breakfast, the group will drive to the nearby border crossing to enter China via the Gyirong border. A local Tibetan guide will meet you on the Chinese side, and a short drive will bring you to Gyirong Town. The rest of the day is dedicated to acclimatization, as the altitude increases to 2,800 meters above sea level. You will explore the Gyirong Valley, which British explorer Howard-Bury described as "the most beautiful valley in the world." Enjoy the serene landscapes of dense forests, traditional Sherpa villages, and snow-capped peaks rising above the greenery. This time is perfect for taking photos and absorbing the unique atmosphere of the area. Overnight stay will be at the Pengcuo Kangsang Hotel or similar.
Day 3: Gyirong to Everest Base Camp to Tingri Today, the journey continues from Gyirong to the Everest Base Camp (EBC), with a significant change in landscape as you ascend from 2,800 meters to 5,200 meters above sea level. After breakfast, the drive takes you through the stunning scenery of Gyirong, moving from forested areas to the higher altitudes of the Tibetan Plateau. You will pass by Pelku Tso Lake and the majestic Mount Shishapangma, the 14th-highest peak in the world, before reaching the Gawula Pass at 5,198 meters. Here, you will enjoy a panoramic view of the Himalayas, with five peaks over 8,000 meters, including Mount Everest, standing prominently among them. At the Everest Base Camp, you can take in the breathtaking views of Mount Everest from the north slope and visit the world’s highest temple, Rongbuk Monastery. After exploring the base camp, the group will continue to Tingri (4,300 meters) for the night. The overnight stay will be at the Tingri Everest Hotel or similar.
Day 4: Tingri to Shigatse via Lhatse The journey from Tingri to Shigatse, the second-largest city in Tibet, begins after breakfast. The route passes through Lhatse, where you will see the 5000-meter milestone on the G318 National Highway, one of the highest roads in the world. Upon arrival in Shigatse in the early afternoon, you will visit the Tashilhunpo Monastery, the traditional seat of the Panchen Lama. This monastery is one of Tibet's most significant religious sites, featuring vast halls and intricate structures that occupy the entire hillside. It houses the world's largest statue of Maitreya Buddha, making it a spiritual center for Tibetan Buddhism. After exploring the monastery and learning about its rich history, you will have dinner featuring a cultural song and dance performance. The overnight stay will be at the Shigayagcha Hotel or similar.
Day 5: Shigatse to Lhasa via Gyantse Today's journey takes you from Shigatse to Lhasa, the spiritual heart of Tibet. You will start the day with a visit to Gyantse Town, where you will explore the historic Pelkor Monastery and the Kumbum Stupa. This site offers a glimpse into the religious and architectural heritage of Tibet. Continuing the journey, you will pass by the Karola Glacier, the largest glacier in Tibet, and witness its imposing ice tongue stretching across the mountainside. The next highlight is Yamdrok Lake, one of Tibet's three sacred lakes. Situated at an altitude of 4,400 meters, the lake is surrounded by snow-capped mountains, providing a serene and awe-inspiring landscape. You will have a chance to visit a local farmhouse for lunch and learn about the traditional lifestyle of Tibetan families. After lunch and a leisurely exploration of the lakeshore, the group will continue to Lhasa, arriving in the evening. Day 6: Lhasa City Sightseeing - Drepung Monastery & Sera Monastery The day is dedicated to exploring two of Lhasa’s most important monasteries. In the morning, you will visit Drepung Monastery, once the largest monastery in Tibet and home to over 10,000 monks. As you walk through the monastery's halls, your guide will provide insights into the history and worldview of Tibetan Buddhism. You will also visit Loseling College, one of the monastery’s main academic institutions, and see the dormitories where monks study and live. In the afternoon, the group will proceed to Sera Monastery, another of the "Great Three" Gelug monasteries. Here, you will witness the famous Tibetan Monks Debate, a lively and engaging practice where monks debate Buddhist philosophy and teachings in a traditional courtyard setting. After the tour, enjoy a welcome dinner with your fellow travelers, celebrating your journey through Tibet. The overnight stay will be at the Gang-Gyan Hotel Lhasa or similar.
Day 7: Lhasa City Sightseeing - Potala Palace, Jokhang Temple, Barkhor Street Today’s itinerary focuses on exploring UNESCO World Heritage Sites in Lhasa. After breakfast, you will visit the iconic Potala Palace, which dominates the city skyline. As the former winter residence of the Dalai Lamas, the palace is a symbol of Tibetan Buddhism and houses a wealth of historical treasures, including gilded stupas and ancient artifacts. From the top, you will enjoy panoramic views of Lhasa and the surrounding mountains. Following the Potala Palace, you will explore Jokhang Temple, considered the most sacred temple in Tibet. Inside, you will find the revered statue of Buddha Sakyamuni at the age of twelve, and outside, you will observe pilgrims performing prostrations in devotion.
