Day 1: Arrival in Lhasa Upon your arrival in Lhasa, the heart of Tibet, you will be warmly greeted by our friendly Tibetan guide, who will present you with a traditional Tibetan ceremonial scarf known as Hada. After a warm welcome, you’ll be transferred to your hotel in downtown Lhasa. As you settle in, take some time to relax and acclimatize to the high altitude. In the evening, your guide will provide a brief introduction to the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra and share useful travel tips. Enjoy your first night in Lhasa, soaking in the spiritual ambiance of this ancient city.
Day 2: Lhasa Exploration - Drepung Monastery and Sera Monastery Today, immerse yourself in the rich spiritual culture of Tibet with visits to two of its most important monasteries. Start your day at Drepung Monastery, once home to over 10,000 monks and a significant center of Tibetan Buddhism. Here, you will gain insights into the teachings and history of Tibetan Buddhism. In the afternoon, visit Sera Monastery to witness the famous Tibetan Monk Debates, a unique and dynamic way monks engage in scholarly debates to deepen their understanding of Buddhist philosophy. End your day with a group dinner, celebrating the start of your spiritual journey.
Day 3: Lhasa - Potala Palace, Jokhang Temple, and Barkhor Street Explore the UNESCO World Heritage Sites in Lhasa today, beginning with a visit to the Potala Palace, the former winter residence of the Dalai Lamas and a symbol of Tibetan Buddhism. Marvel at the stunning architecture and the treasures housed within its walls. Afterward, head to Jokhang Temple, Tibet’s most sacred shrine, and join pilgrims in their kora around the temple. Later, stroll through Barkhor Street, a bustling market where you can shop for souvenirs and experience the local culture. The day concludes with a relaxing tea session in a traditional Tibetan tea house.
Day 4: Journey from Lhasa to Shigatse via Gyantse Begin your overland journey from Lhasa to Shigatse, the second-largest city in Tibet. On the way, stop at Yamdrok Lake, one of Tibet’s most beautiful lakes, and enjoy the breathtaking views of the surrounding snow-capped mountains. Continue your journey, passing by the Karola Glacier, and visit the ancient city of Gyantse. In the evening, arrive in Shigatse, where you will rest and prepare for the next leg of your Kailash Mansarovar Yatra.
Day 5: Shigatse to Everest Base Camp Today, you will travel to Everest Base Camp, where you’ll witness the majesty of the world’s highest peak. Along the way, you’ll cross high mountain passes offering stunning panoramic views of the Himalayan range, including your first glimpses of Mount Everest. Upon reaching Everest Base Camp, you will be awed by the towering presence of Mount Everest. Spend the night at a tent hotel or a nearby village, depending on the season.
Day 6: Everest Base Camp to Saga via Pelku Tso Lake Continue your journey towards the sacred Mount Kailash. Departing from Everest Base Camp, you’ll visit the Rongbuk Monastery, the highest monastery in the world, and then travel westward across the Ngari Plateau. Along the way, you’ll pass by Mt. Shishapangma and Pelku Tso Lake, where you can enjoy the stunning natural scenery. Arrive in Saga by evening, where you will rest for the night.
Day 7: Saga to Darchen via Zhongba Today’s journey takes you through the Saga Valley, nestled between the Himalayan and Gangdise ranges. As you travel, you’ll be surrounded by vast grasslands and snow-capped peaks. You’ll pass by the beautiful Gongzhucuo Lake before crossing the Mayum La Mountain pass, entering the Ngari Region, and catching your first sight of the sacred Lake Manasarovar and Mount Kailash in the distance. Arrive in Darchen, the base for your Kailash trek, where you’ll rest and prepare for the next day’s pilgrimage.
Day 8: Darchen to Dirapuk Monastery (Trek Day 1) The first day of your Kailash Mansarovar Yatra trek begins! After breakfast, take an eco-bus to Sarshung Valley, where you’ll start your 13-kilometer trek around the base of Mount Kailash. The trek today is relatively easy, allowing you to fully appreciate the stunning southern and western slopes of Mount Kailash. Reach Dirapuk Monastery by late afternoon, where you can explore the monastery and enjoy the sunset over Mount Kailash. Spend the night at a local guesthouse.
Day 9: Dirapuk Monastery to Zutulpuk Monastery (Trek Day 2) Today is the most challenging day of your trek. Begin early with a steep climb from Dirapuk Monastery to Dolma La Pass, the highest point of the trek at 5,630 meters. After crossing the pass, you’ll descend to the serene Lake of Compassion, believed to have purifying powers. Continue trekking to Zutulpuk Monastery, where you will spend the night. The challenging day is rewarded with stunning views and a deep sense of spiritual accomplishment.
Day 10: Zutulpuk Monastery to Darchen (Trek Day 3) Complete your kora around Mount Kailash as you trek back to Darchen. After finishing the trek, take a short drive to Lake Manasarovar, one of the holiest lakes in the world. Here, you can meditate by the lakeside, bathe in the sacred waters, or simply relax and take in the peaceful surroundings. Afterward, return to Darchen for the night.
Day 11: Darchen to Saga Today, you’ll retrace your steps back to Saga, leaving the sacred region of Ngari behind. Enjoy the scenic drive through the vast landscapes of the Ngari Plateau and the Himalayas. Arrive in Saga by evening, where you will rest for the night, reflecting on the spiritual journey you’ve undertaken.
Day 12: Saga to Gyirong Continue your journey to Gyirong Valley, a hidden gem on the border of Nepal and Tibet. As you descend from the high plateau, the landscape changes from snow-capped mountains to lush forests and deep valleys. Upon reaching Gyirong Town, explore the beautiful Gyirong Valley, known for its stunning natural beauty and serene atmosphere. Spend the night in Gyirong, experiencing the unique local culture.
Day 13: Gyirong to Tingri After a restful morning in Gyirong, begin your journey back to Tingri. The drive offers more breathtaking views of the Himalayas as you ascend back to the highlands. Arrive in Tingri in the afternoon, where you’ll have time to rest and relax.
Day 14: Tingri to Lhasa Your return to Lhasa begins with a visit to Tashilhunpo Monastery, the spiritual home of the Panchen Lama. Explore the magnificent halls of the monastery and learn about its significance in Tibetan Buddhism. Afterward, drive back to Lhasa, following the scenic route along the Yarlung Tsangpo River. Spend your final night in Lhasa, reminiscing about your incredible journey.
