Despite the altitude covered, the trek is considered a moderate trek. Therefore, any physically fit individual with sound health can plan their hike to Khopra Danda and Khayer Lake. The journey starts with a scenic bus ride from Kathmandu to Pokhara and then to Nayapul. The trek begins from Nayapul and follows the regular trail up to Tadapani crossing Ghandruk. From Tadapani, trekkers follow the off-the-beaten trail up to Khopra Ridge and Khayer Lake. Coming down, the trail joins the regular trail at Chitre, which continues till Nayapul after enjoying Ghorepani and Poon Hill.

Planning your trek between October-December and March-May supports you with perfect temperature, trail, weather, and visibility. Day 01: Arrival day (1,300m/4,264 ft)

Welcome to Kathmandu – the capital city of Nepal. Today is your first day with Amigo Treks & Expedition. Therefore, we send one of our company representatives to receive you at the Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA), who will further escort you to a 3 star standard hotel booked for you in Kathmandu. If possible, we also schedule a meeting at our office for the briefing regarding the trek, which is followed by an introduction session with other team members (especially Sherpas and guides). Today, we also arrange a welcome dinner in one of the most popular local restaurants, where you can enjoy ethnic dance and cultural music along with great Nepali food. If your flight arrives late, both the meeting and dinner can be scheduled for the following day.

Day 02: Trek preparation and Kathmandu city tour

The capital, Kathmandu valley itself, is a big storehouse of exclusive natural, cultural and historical sites. Therefore, today, we take you on a few-hour tour of the major attractions of Kathmandu valley. After spending a few hours observing these wonderful sites, we again meet for a few hours to finalize your clothing and trekking gear (down jacket, trekking boots, sleeping bags, etc.) required during the trek. The night will be spent at a hotel in Kathmandu.

(Highlights of the day: World Heritage sites like Kathmandu Durbar Square (a historical structure offering architectural wonders), the Pashupatinath temple (a Hindu shrine dedicated to Lord Shiva- lord possessing the power of destruction), Swyambhunath and Boudhanath – (a Buddhist shrine dedicated to Lord Buddha- Light of Asia).

Optional site: Another World Heritage site ‘Patan Durbar Square’ along with other historical masterpieces like Mahabouddha Temple, Krishna Temple, Golden Temple, and Kumbeshwor Temple.)

Day 03: Kathmandu to Pokhara by bus (flight is an option)

Today, in the morning our guides will come to pick you up at your hotel and escort you to the bus station to catch an early morning, comfortable tourist bus to Pokhara. The bus will head towards the west of Kathmandu Valley and continue the journey towards the western part of Nepal following the Prithvi Highway along the Trishuli river. The bus will stop twice – once for breakfast and then for lunch and continue until we reach Pokhara. The evening can be utilized to explore the lake area. The night will be spent at a tourist standard hotel in Pokhara.

Day 04: Pokhara to Ghandruk

Today is the first day of the trek and our destination is Ghandruk. A 2-hour ride will take us to Nayapul. On reaching Nayapul, the luggage is prepared for the porters. After a short pre-trek preparation, we walk down to Birethanti, where our team leaders will take care of all the check-in formalities at the ACAP office. After this, we cross the suspension bridge over the Modi River. Then walking on the bank of the Modi Khola, we cross Syauli Bazaar. Out of Syauli Bazaar and a winding stone step trail will take us to Ghandruk crossing small settlements like Kimche, Chane, and Imle. On reaching Ghandruk, we rest for some time and then walk around the village to explore its cultural beauty. The night will be spent at a lodge in Ghandruk.

(Highlights of the day: Magnificent view of Machhapuchhre, Annapurna South, and Hiunchuli, small Brahmin and Chhetri  settlement, unique lifestyle of people living in Kimche, Chane, and Imle, and Ghandruk – a beautiful Gurung village, terraced farm featuring seasonal crops and vegetables.)

Day 05: Ghandruk to Tadapani

Today is the second day of the trek and leaving the beautiful village of Ghandruk behind, we hike up to our destination, Tadapani. From Ghandruk, we ascend through the forest of Oak and Rhododendrons that is alive with the sound of chirping birds, blooming rhododendron forest, singing waterfalls, and the fine view of peaks in the Annapurna region. The settlement of people is almost nil here; however, trekkers can enjoy a few teahouses en route. After hiking through the forest, we finally reach Tadapani. We also enjoy the sunset view in the evening. The night will be spent at a lodge in Tadapani.

(Highlights of the day: A pleasant walk through rhododendron and Oak forest featuring varieties of birds and insects, a waterfall, a magnificent view of Annapurna II, Annapurna III, Annapurna IV, Annapurna South, Machhapuchhre, and Lamjung Himal, the sunset view from Tadapani).

Day 06: Tadapani to Bayali

Today is the third day of the trek and our destination is Bayali. Leaving the main trail (Annapurna Circuit Trekking trail), we follow the trail that passes through beautiful rhododendron and oak forest. Initially, the trail ascends gently, which later descends a little. After this small descent, the walk continues upward through the rhododendron forest, passing several clearings up to the bigger ridge top clearing at Baisi Kharka. From here we further ascend until we reach Bayeli. The night will be spent at a lodge in Bayeli.

(Highlights of the day: Pleasant walk through dense rhododendron forest, remote area of Annapurna region, a chance to spot some wild animals and Danphe – the national bird of Nepal, excellent view of Annapurna South, Machhapuchhre and Dhaulagiri, and stay at community lodges.)

Day 07: Bayali to Khopradanda

Today is the fourth day of the trek and our destination is Khopra Danda.  In the morning, we take a short walk above the lodge for a sunrise view. We then come back, have breakfast, and descend towards the pastures of lower Chistibung. A gradual climb from here through the forest will lead us to Upper Chistibung passing the grassy ridge above the trail. From Upper Chistibung, a steep climb above the tree line through alpine meadows and pastures will take us to Khopra. We then take a walk down Khopra Ridge towards the viewpoint for the spectacular view mountains. The night will be spent at a teahouse in Khopra.

(Highlights of the day: Amazing mountain panorama including Mt. Nilgiri, Dhaulagiri, and Annapurna South, and Kaligandaki river far below the ridge, the experience of alpine meadows and pastures, rhododendron forest, an opportunity to spot Lhophophorus and Himalayan Thar, and temporary herder’s settlement.)

Day 08: Explore day (visit khayar lake)

Today is the fifth day of the trek and we spend the day exploring the area. A five-hour hike from Khopra Danda will take us to Khayar Lake, a rarely visited sacred freshwater lake situated at an altitude of 4,600m above sea level, which is even higher than Annapurna Base Camp. It is believed that the lake is used by leopards to quench their thirst. We spend some time exploring the Khair Barahi temple area, watching different varieties of birds, and walking back to Khopra Danda. The night will be spent at a teahouse in Khopra Danda.

(Highlights of the day: A visit to Khayer Lake, a lake which is known to very few people, a temple near the lake, the experience of different birds, and if you are lucky you can also spot leopards.)

Day 09: Khopradanda to Swanta

Today is the sixth day of the trek and our destination is Swanta which is a Magar village. From Khopra Danda, an hour of the downward walk will take us to Upper Chistibung.  From here, enjoying the views of Dhaulagiri, terraced fields, and traditional houses, we further descend to Swanta. The night will be spent at a lodge in Swanta.

Day 10: Swanta to Ghorepani

Today is the seventh day of the trek and our destination is Ghorepani. Initially, the trail drops down through the village fields and towards a small river, where we can see a small watermill. We cross a suspension bridge and head towards Chitre Village. On reaching Chitre, we meet the main trekking trail, where we can also meet other trekkers trekking different sections of the Annapurna region. From here, the trail ascends to Ghorepani. The night will be spent at a lodge in Ghorepani.

(Highlights of the day: View of the small water mill, and a great view of Dhaulagiri massif.)

Day 11: Ghorepani to Pokhara

Today is the last day of the trek. Today, early in the morning we hike up to Poon Hill for the sunrise view. We then come back, have breakfast, and continue towards ending the trek. Initially, we descend through the forest of Oak and Rhododendrons, crossing Nangge Thanti and Banthanti until we reach Ulleri. On reaching Ulleri, following the stone steps, we climb down to Tikhedhungga after crossing a suspension bridge. Then passing a few settlements: Hile, Sudame, and Lamdawali we finally reach Nayapul to catch a private car to  Pokhara. After about two hours of ride, we reach Pokhara. In Pokhara, you will be taken to a 3 star standard hotel, where you can take a hot shower and relax your tired muscles. In the evening, you can either relax at your hotel or take a stroll around the lakeside in Pokhara. The night will be spent at a tourist standard hotel in Pokhara.

Day 12: Pokhara to Kathmandu by bus (flight is an option)

Today, from Pokhara we catch a tourist standard bus to Kathmandu. Leaving Pokhara, we head east toward the capital city, Kathmandu. After 7 hours of driving all the way through Prithvi Highway, we reach Kathmandu. On reaching Kathmandu you will be escorted to your hotel, where you can freshen up and rest for some time. Around the evening, the company representatives conduct a short meeting to discuss the trip, your experience, and your feedback. The night will be spent at a tourist standard hotel in Kathmandu.

Day 13: Departure day

This day is the last day of your trip to Nepal with Amigo Treks and Expedition. If your flight is scheduled for early morning, then one of our company representatives will escort you to the airport as per your flight departure time. But, if the flight is scheduled for later in the evening, you can go shopping and collect a few mementos or simply hang around shopping areas in Kathmandu. However, if you are planning to spend some extra days in Nepal, Amigo Treks and Expedition can also make the arrangements for some other top adventurous activities that you can attend while you are in Nepal.
