Combining experience of scenic trekking, cultural exploration and spiritual discovery, this thoughtfully designed itinerary makes a perfect match for those seeking both adventure and insight into the country’s diverse terrain and tradition.

This exciting adventure in the Annapurna region of Nepal begins with a very rewarding trek through the forest of rhododendron, charming Gurung and Magar villages and terraced hills to Ghorepani and Poon Hill. One of the highlights of the trek, Poon Hill (3,210m) offers trekkers the experience of the  most iconic and unforgettable mountain sunrise vista in the world, when the golden sunrays illuminate the peaks of Annapurna and Dhaularigi range. Having enjoyed the view, you will hike down to Taopani to end your trekking journey. A night in Tatopani allows you time to experience a natural hot spring, where you can relax your tired muscles. From Tatopani, your journey is now into the trans-Himalayan region of Lower Mustang, which is famed for its arid landscape, Tibetan-influenced culture, sacred sites, ancient settlements and apple orchards. Making most of your time in Lower Mustang, you will visit Muktinath - a pilgrimage site for both Hindus and Buddhists, explore ancient villages such as Kagbeni- one of the oldest villages in the Himalayas that preserves Kag Chode Thupten Samphel Lign Monastery (a 15th century monastery), and Lubra Village- a 12th century pristine village that still practice Bonism. Additionally, a night in Marpha adds a perfect touch to the journey by offering a unique opportunity to get insight into the traditional Thakali (ethnic group in Nepal) culture and architecture and experience the apple orchard of the nation. After returning to Pokhara, you will spend one day exploring the highlights (Pumdikot, World Peace Pagoda, Gupreshwor Cave, Devi’s Fall and the International Mountaineering Museum) of the valley. If you are an adventurous soul, you can also spend this day experiencing adventurous activities, such as paragliding, zip lining, bungee jumping, ultralight flight etc. the valley offers.

On this 9 Nights 10 days Poon Hill Trek and Lower Mustang Tour designed by Amigo Treks and Expedition, you will spend 2 nights in Kathmandu, 3 nights in Pokhara and the remaining nights in the Annapurna region. The highest you will go on this trip is Muktinath located at the altitude of 3760 meter above sea level. However, the trek to Poon Hill, provides required acclimatization for the upcoming elevation gain. From lush forest to high mountain deserts, from trekking trails to road journeys through timeless Himalayan villages, this trekking and tour-combined itinerary caters to a diverse range of travelers, ensuring a fulfilling experience for all. But, if the itinerary and the package do not align with your requirements, we will fully customize the package to meet all your specific requirements.

Once checked in, you can rest and unwind from your journey or take a leisurely walk around the vibrant streets of Thamel- Kathmandu’s lively tourist hub filled with shops, cafes and cultural charm. In the evening, we’ll hold a short briefing to go over the trip details and answer any last-minute questions.

If your flight is scheduled to arrive late, the briefing will be held the following day after breakfast and before leaving for Pokhara.

Overnight at a hotel in Kathmandu.

Day 02: Drive to Pokhara (7h)

Today you will drive from Kathmandu to Pokhara. The journey starts after breakfast at the hotel in Kathmandu in a private vehicle-car/jeep/minivan/bus-as per the group size. The journey from Kathmandu to Pokhara is a scenic transition from the country’s bustling capital city to its tranquil lakeside city perched beneath the beautiful peaks of the Annapuna and Dhaulagiri range. This road journey will take you on a scenic drive along the 200 kilometer Prithvi Highway. The highway winds past charming villages, riverside landscape and terraced farmlands, offering a glimpse into the everyday life of rural Nepal. While longer, the driver also offers flexibility for photo stops and refreshment breaks along the way.

Barring any delays due to ongoing road construction or highway traffic, the drive to Pokhara typically takes around 7 hours.

Nevertheless, if you prefer the most comfortable and time-efficient way to travel, allowing you more time to relax and explore Pokhara upon arrival, you can also choose to fly to Pokhara from Kathmandu. It’s a short (25-30 minutes) but spectacular flight that offers stunning aerial views of terraced hills, lush valleys and, on clear days, the majestic peaks of the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri Ranges. You will be received at the airport and transferred to your hotel by the company representative. Additional charges will be applicable for this flight option.

For those arriving Pokhara by road, upon arrival in Pokhara, will be transferred to the pre-booked hotel. After check-in, the rest of the day is yours to enjoy at leisure-either relaxing at the hotel or strolling around the tranquil lakeside area. Overnight in a hotel in Pokhara.

Meals: Breakfast

Day 03: Drive to Ulleri (1,960m/6430ft),(4h) and trek to Ghorepani (2860m/9,383ft),(7km),(4h)

Begin your day with a hearty buffet breakfast- choosing from an array of freshly prepared continental as well as local options - served at your hotel’s in-house restaurant.

After breakfast, your guide will meet you at your hotel in Pokhara to start your day’s journey. Your journey begins with a private jeep drive from Pokhara to Ulleri-the starting point of your trek to Ghorepani. Departing Pokhara, you’ll follow the well-paved Pokhara-Baglung Highway toward Nayapul, where the road to Ulleri branches off. The drive up to Nayapul is comfortable and scenic, offering views of terraced hillside and rural life along a smooth highway. A short drive from Nayapul toward Ulleri brings you to Birethanti, where you’ll make a brief stop at the ACAP checkpoint to complete the necessary entry formalities. From Birethanti, your journey continues to Ulleri, passing through the villages of Lamdawali, Sudame, Hile and Tikhedhunga along the way. This stretch of the road is mostly off-road, offering a rugged and adventurous driving experience. Despite the bumpy terrain, the route from Pokhara to Ulleri is remarkably scenic, unfolding panoramic views of snow-capped peaks beneath clear blue skies, lush green hills, terraced farmlands and snapshots of rural life that you’ll connect with more intimately in the days to come. After approximately four hours on the road, you’ll arrive in Ulleri, a picturesque Magar village set against the stunning backdrop of the Annapurna South and Hiunchuli.

If you are feeling hungry, you can enjoy lunch in Ulleri before beginning your trek. If not, you will stop for lunch in Banthanti. After a brief preparation in Ulleri, you’ll begin your hike to Ghorepani, located about 7 kilometers to the northwest. The trail offers a gentle ascent, winding primarily through serene forests of rhododendron and oak. Trekking through the forest and passing the small settlements of Banthanti and Nagge Thanti, you’ll reach Ghorepani in approximately four hours from Ulleri. Ghorepani is a tranquil mountain village nestled amidst breathtaking views of Annapurna South, Hiunchuli, Machhapuchhre, Dhaulagiri and Nilgiri. As a popular stop along several trekking routes in the region, it offers a unique window into traditional mountain life. Often referred to as the gateway to Poon Hill, the most iconic vantage point for panoramic views of Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ranges, Ghorepani, is well-equipped to welcome trekkers with a variety of lodges and guesthouses providing comfortable accommodation, warm meals and essential services. Upon arrival, you’ll check into your lodge, enjoy a hearty dinner and settle in for the night.

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner

Day 04: Hike to Poon Hill (3,210m/10,531ft) and trek to Tatopani (1,190m/3,904ft),(14km),(6-7h)

Get prepared for the longest day of this trip; first early morning hike to Poon Hill and then trek down to Tatopani. Begin the day with an early morning hike to Poon Hill, where you’ll witness the breathtaking sunrise illuminating the Annapurna and Dhaularigi ranges in golden light. This special view from Poon Hill is ephemeral, therefore, getting there on time is necessary. The hike from Ghorepani to Poon Hill takes about 45 minutes, so you’ll bring your ascent roughly 45 minutes before sunrise to catch the first light over the mountains.

At the summit of Poon Hill, you’ll be greeted by a breathtaking spectacle—the sun slowly rising over the majestic Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ranges. In one sweeping panorama, an awe-inspiring array of Himalayan giants unfolds before you: Dhaulagiri, Tukuche, Thapa Peak, Nilgiri (South, Central, and North), Tilicho Peak, Patal Hiunchuli, Annapurna South, Baraha Shikhar, Annapurna I, Singu Chuli, Tharpu Chuli, Tare Kang, Gangapurna, Annapurna III, Gandarwa Chuli, Machhapuchhre, Mardi Himal, Annapurna IV, Annapurna II, and Lamjung Himal. Take your time to soak in this unforgettable view, capture it through your lens, and then make your way back to Ghorepani for a well-earned breakfast.

Lodges in Ghorepani offer a mix of freshly made local and international breakfast options, perfect for refueling before the next leg of your trek. After a hearty breakfast in Ghorepani, you will start your trek to Tatopani. The trail from Ghorepani to Tatopani offers a dramatic shift in scenery as you descend from cool alpine forest into the warm, subtropical valley of the Kali Gandaki River. The day begins with a steady descent through dense rhododendron and oak forest, passing through charming hillside villages like Shika and Chaitre, where you’ll catch glimpses of terraced fields and traditional Magar homes. As the trail continues downward, the vegetation changes noticeably-lush greenery, banana trees and warmer air mark your approach towards lower elevation. Gradually leaving behind the towering snow peaks you will now enter the gorge carved by the Kali Gandaki, the deepest in the world.

After about 6-7 hours of trekking, you arrive at Tatopani. This village that lies on the way to Lower Mustang is famed for its natural hot spring, perfect for relaxing your tired leg muscles after a long day’s walk. Nestled along the riverbank, Tatopani  offers a peaceful ambiance with several teahouses and lodges providing accommodation. You will check into one of these lodges for dinner and overnight stay.

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner

Day 05: Drive to Muktinath (5-6h)

Your journey into Lower Mustang begins from here. Today you will drive from Tatopani to Muktinath. Revered by both Hindus and Buddhists, Muktinath is one of the sacred and the most important pilgrimage sites in the country.

The journey from Tatopani to Muktinath is an overland adventure through the dramatic landscapes of the Kali Gandaki Valley. Departing the lush, subtropical surrounding of Tatopani, the road gradually climbs through a changing landscape, where lush hills give way to arid cliffs, deep gorges and windswept valleys. Following the thrilling jeep track that runs along the Kali Gandaki River, passing through picturesque villages like Ghasa, Lete, Marpha and Jomsom, each having its own cultural charm and distinct architecture and enjoying the expansive view of the rain-shadow region of Mustang with snow-clad Dhaulagiri and Nilgiri towering in the background, you will drive to Muktinath located in the barren and windswept landscape at the altitude of 3,760 meters above sea level. This drive approximately takes about 5-6 hours.

In Muktinath, you will check into one of the lodges for dinner and overnight stay. Around late afternoon take a short stroll if you are up for the views of stark mountains, spiritual silence, cultural richness as well as a sense of deep serenity.

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner

Day 06: Visit Muktinath, Kaagbeni, Lubra Valley and drive to Marpha

This day’s activities may commence either prior to or following breakfast, according to your preference. In the morning, you will visit the temple of Muktinath, one of the 108 Divya Desams, or sacred Vishnu temples for Hindus. It is also known as Muktishetra, which means “the place of liberation”. For the followers of Buddhism, the temple is associated with goddess Tara. After visiting the 108 spouts surrounding the temple and enjoying the views, you will visit the Jwala Mai Temple, which is a small, but very significant temple located within the Muktinath Temple complex. The temple is revered for its eternal natural flame (jwala) that not only has been burning continuously for centuries, but emerging from rock, coexists with water flowing from a small stream, symbolizing the unity of elements.

After exploring the two sacred sites in Muktinath, you will drive down to Kagbeni—a revered pilgrimage site where Hindus perform ancestral rituals for the departed. Kagbeni holds equal significance for Buddhist followers, thanks to the presence of the Kag Chode Thupten Samphel Ling Monastery, a key spiritual center established around 1429 AD. Kagbeni also serves as the gateway to the culturally rich region of Upper Mustang. Following the visit of Kagbeni, you will now drive to Lubra Village- a pristine 12th century village with only about 14 houses that still follow Bonism- a Tibetan born, ancient, animistic, indigenous religion that incorporating Buddhism and Shamanism mainly worships nature-based deities.

After visiting these important locations in Lower Mustang, you will drive down to a very picturesque village, Marpha, which is also known as the apple capital of the nation. The village features charming stone-paved lanes, white-washed houses and serene Himalayan backdrop, making it a perfect place to spend a night after the day’s tour. Once in Marpha, you will check into the lodge, and if you are still energetic, you can explore this interesting village and try out some freshly picked apples and apple products. Overnight in a lodge in Marpha.

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner

Day 07: Drive to Pokhara (5h)

Marpha to Pokhara is only about a 5 hour drive, therefore, you will spend the morning enjoying the mesmerizing surrounding views and enjoying a leisurely breakfast to start your journey to Pokhara. This journey will be in a private vehicle. Bidding farewell to enchanting landscape and the views of Lower Mustang, an adventure-packed drive will bring you back to Pokhara. In Pokhara, you will be dropped to the pre-booked hotel, where after checking in formalities, you can spend the evening at leisure.

Meals: Breakfast and Lunch

Day 08: Full day Pokhara sightseeing tour

This day’s tour is designed to help you experience the city’s natural beauty, cultural richness and iconic landmarks- all in one go.

Starting after breakfast, your driver will first take you to Pumdikot- a peaceful hilltop destination, known for its towering Shiva statue and the panoramic views of Annapurna and Machhapuchhre and the valley of Pokkhara. After spending some time here, your driver will take you to the World Peace Pagoda- a serene Buddhist monument, built as a symbol of peace and harmony, perched atop a hillside overlooking Phewa Lake and Annapurna range. It is one of the most favored sites for meditation and photography. After visiting the peace pagoda, you will then drive down to Davi’s fall- a very popular waterfall in Pokhara and Gupteshwor Cave- one of the longest caves in Nepal that also houses the shrine of different Hindu gods and goddesses. This cave is located just across the street from the fall. After visiting these two sites, your drive will now take you to visit the International Mountaineering Museum, an exploration of which gives you insight into the culture of Himalayan communities, mountaineering history and famous national and international mountaineers. From here you will drive to Phewa Lake to enjoy a one hour serene boat ride and visit the Tal Barahi Temple. In the evening, enjoy the lakeside aarati programme before heading back to the hotel for overnight stay.

Meals: Breakfast

Day 09: Drive to Kathmandu (7h)

Your journey back to Kathmandu begins after breakfast at your hotel in Pokhara. A private vehicle (car, jeep, minivan, or bus depending on group size) will be arranged for the approximately 200-kilometer drive along the scenic Prithvi Highway. Under normal traffic conditions and barring any road construction delays, the drive takes around 7 hours. Along the way, enjoy the captivating views of Nepal's rural landscapes one last time. There will be scheduled stops for lunch and restroom breaks as needed.

Upon arrival in Kathmandu, you'll be transferred to your hotel and assisted with the check-in process. After some time to freshen up and rest, a company representative will meet you in the evening for a farewell dinner to celebrate the success of your journey.
