The Buddhist Circuit in Nepal or the Buddhist Pilgrimage site tour in Nepal is a tour of important Buddhist shrines of Nepal. Starting with one of the oldest stupas ‘Swayambhunath’ and one of the biggest stupas ‘Boudhanath’ in Kathmandu, we proceed towards the birth place of Lord Buddha, Lumbini, which holds great importance for the followers of Buddhism located all around the world.
The prime attractions of Lumbini tour include all the major religious and archaeological sites like, the Sacred Lumbini Garden- birthplace of Lord Buddha; the Ashoka Pillar- a pillar erected by the Mauryan Experor Ashoka in 249 BC that testifies the birth year and place of Lord Buddha; Mayadevi Temple – a temple that protects the bas-relief depicting the nativity and other ruins of old temple walls dating from 3rd BC to 12 AD; the Puskarni Pond – a pond, in which, Queen Maya Devi took a bath, before giving birth to Lord Buddha; the Lumbini Museum that exhibits the Mauryan and Kushana coins, religious manuscripts, terracotta fragments and stone and metal sculptures and stamps from various countries depicting Lumbini and Buddha, and the World Peace Pagoda. Day 1: Arrival day Welcome to Nepal. Since this is your first day with Amigo Treks and Expedition, you will be greeted by one of the company representatives, awaiting your arrival in the Tribhuvan International Airport. From the airport you will be transferred to the hotel booked for you in Kathmandu in a private vehicle. If the time permits, a short meeting will be conducted at our office for the briefing regarding the tour. At the same meeting you will also be introduced to the other team members (especially guides). In the evening, you will be taken to one of the finest local restaurants in Kathmandu for welcome dinner, where you will be introduced to Nepali food, cultural music and ethnic dance. However, if your flight arrives late, both the meeting and the dinner will be scheduled for the following day. Overnight in a tourist standard hotel in Kathmandu. Day 2: Kathmandu Valley sightseeing The Swayambhunath Stupa and the Boudhanath Stupa are the two main Buddhist attraction of the Kathmandu Valley. Therefore, after breakfast, you will be taken for a sightseeing tour of these sites. However, on request, other attractions of the Kathmandu Valley like the temple of Pashupatinath and the Kathmandu and Patan Durbar Square can also be visited. After spending few hours observing these sites, a short meeting will be conducted at our office for the final preparation of the tour. Overnight in a tourist standard hotel in Kathmandu. Day 3: Drive to Lumbini Lumbini is located 300kms west of Kathmandu. It takes about 7 hours to reach Lumbini from Kathmandu. After breakfast, without any delay, we will head towards Lumbini, leaving Kathmandu. The lunch will be arranged in a restaurant somewhere along the highway. On reaching Lumbini, we will check into the hotel, rest for some time and then set out to visit a few important attractions of Lumbini. We visit areas like the Sacred Lumbini Garden, Ashoka pillar, the Maya Devi Temple and sacred pond and different monasteries in the premises of Mayadevi temple. If time permits, we will also visit Kapilvastu Museum and the World Peace Pagoda. We will return to the hotel for overnight stay. Day 4: Explore day in Lumbini Today, after breakfast, the day will be spent visiting the religious and archaeological sites of Tilaurakot (27 km west of Lumbini), Gotihawa (5 km from Tilaurakot), Kudan (4.5 km south of Tilaurakot), Siddharthanagar (25 km east of Lumbini), Niglihawa (8km from Tilaurakot), and Sagarhawa (12 km north of Taulihawa municipality). After exploring these areas, you will be taken back to the hotel for overnight stay. Meals included: Breakfast (Highlights of the day: Tilaurakot- childhood home of Lord Buddha, where he spent 29 years of his life and the capital of Kapilvastu; Kudan – a place where Lord Buddha met his father for the first time, after the enlightenment; Gothihawa – birth place of Krakuchanda Buddha, also exhibits broken Ashoka Pillar and relics; Nigilhawa –birth place of Kanakmani Buddha; Sagarhawa – place of the massacre of the Shakyas.)
Day 5: Drive to Kathmandu After a morning tour around Lumbini and breakfast, we will drive back to Kathmandu in a private vehicle. It’s a scenic drive for about 7 hours. We will stop once for lunch somewhere along the highway and then proceed towards Kathmandu. On reaching Kathmandu, you will be transferred to your hotel. You will have enough time to rest and relax. Around the evening, we will take you for the farewell dinner at one of the finest local restaurants in Kathmandu, where we will also discuss the tour and the feedback. Overnight in a tourist standard hotel in Kathmandu. Meals included: Breakfast, Dinner (Highlights of the day: Tour around some areas in Lumbini; scenic highway and the farewell dinner.)
Day 6: Departure day. This is the last day of your trip in Nepal with Amigo Treks and Expedition. If your flight is scheduled early morning, then one of the company representatives will escort you to the airport as per your flight departure time. However, if the flight is scheduled later in the evening, you can go shopping and collect a few souvenirs for friends and family or simply hang around the shopping areas in Kathmandu.
