Day 2: Full Day Kathmandu Sightseeing and Tour Briefing After breakfast, explore Kathmandu’s sacred sites, which are deeply connected to the Hindu and Buddhist traditions. Begin with a visit to the revered Pashupatinath Temple, one of the most significant Shiva shrines in the world. Then head to Guhyeshwari Temple, sacred to Goddess Parvati, followed by a peaceful walk around Boudhanath Stupa, one of the largest in the world. Lastly, pay homage at Budhanilkantha, the temple of the sleeping Vishnu. In the evening, we’ll host a detailed tour briefing. You’ll receive down jackets and other essentials for the journey.
Day 3: Scenic Drive to Rasuwagadhi (1,950m) – 7 to 8 hours Start your overland adventure with a scenic drive along the Trishuli River. Wind through terraced hillsides, rural villages, and forested valleys as you head north to Rasuwagadhi near the Nepal-Tibet border. You'll spend the night close to the border, preparing for your entry into Tibet.
Day 4: Cross the Border and Drive to Kyirong (2,800m) Today, complete immigration and customs procedures at the border. Once inside Tibet, meet your local Tibetan guide and driver. Drive a short distance through dramatic Himalayan scenery to the quiet mountain town of Kyirong. Rest and acclimatize to the higher altitude.
Day 5: Drive to Saga (4,400m) – 4 hours Continue your journey across the high Tibetan plateau. Enjoy breathtaking views as you drive over the Kyirong Pass and past the turquoise Peiku Tso Lake. Cross the Yarlung Tsangpo River (the upper Brahmaputra) before arriving in Saga. The vast landscapes and wide skies of Tibet will leave a lasting impression.
Day 6: Drive to Lake Manasarovar (4,600m) – 9 hours Embark on a long but stunning drive through the wilderness of Western Tibet. Cross Mayum-La Pass and witness changing landscapes — from barren plains to sacred mountains. Reach the legendary Lake Manasarovar, believed to cleanse sins and bring peace. Spend the evening near Chiu Gompa, enjoying the peaceful spiritual energy of the holy lake.
Day 7: Lake Rituals and Drive to Darchen (4,700m) – 1 hour Begin the day with a sacred bath or puja in Lake Manasarovar’s waters, revered by both Hindus and Buddhists. After lunch, drive to Darchen, the base town for the Mount Kailash kora. Spend the rest of the day resting and acclimatizing. You may also explore Darchen’s simple shops and meet fellow pilgrims.
Day 8: Trek to Diraphuk (4,950m) – 5 to 6 hours After breakfast, drive a short distance to Yama Dwar, the gateway to the Kailash circuit. Begin your trek with views of the south face of Mount Kailash. The trail follows the Lha Chu Valley with Mount Kailash watching over you. Arrive at Diraphuk by afternoon and settle in with stunning views of Kailash’s north face. Pilgrims not taking part in the kora can stay back in Darchen.
Day 9: Trek to Zuthulphuk via Dolma-La Pass (5,600m) – 9 to 10 hours This is the most challenging and spiritually significant day of the journey. Begin early to ascend to Dolma-La Pass, the highest point of the kora. Weather permitting, witness the golden sunrise on Kailash. At the top of the pass, leave behind old burdens at the prayer-flag-covered summit. On the descent, visit Gauri Kunda, a sacred lake in Hindu mythology. Continue to Zuthulphuk Monastery and rest after a long, rewarding day.
Day 10: End Trek and Drive Back to Saga – up to 8 hours After a short trek to complete the kora, reunite with your team in Darchen. Enjoy breakfast and begin the return journey across the vast Tibetan plateau. Depending on the group’s pace and road conditions, drive to either Dongba or Saga for the night.
