12-Day Journey Through the Last Forbidden Kingdom

The Upper Mustang Motorcycle Tour with Amigo Treks and Expeditions is more than just a ride through Nepal's mountains. It's your chance to explore one of the world's most isolated and culturally preserved regions on two wheels. This 12-day adventure takes you deep into the heart of Upper Mustang, a restricted area that remained completely closed to foreigners until 1992 and still requires special permits to visit today.

Your journey covers approximately 900 kilometers of diverse terrain, from the bustling streets of Kathmandu to the medieval walled city of Lo Manthang at 3,840 meters. Along the way, you'll ride through the world's deepest gorge, visit sacred pilgrimage sites, soak in natural hot springs, and experience authentic Tibetan Buddhist culture that has remained virtually unchanged for centuries. The route takes you through dramatic ecological transitions, from lush subtropical valleys to high-altitude desert plateaus that look more like Mars than Earth.

This Upper Mustang motorcycle tour is designed for riders who want a real adventure, not just a scenic cruise. You'll face challenging road conditions, long riding days, and high altitudes that test both your skills and endurance. But that's exactly what makes it unforgettable. Every challenging climb rewards you with views that few people on Earth ever get to see. Every difficult section of the trail brings you deeper into a world where ancient traditions still govern daily life.

The cultural experience is just as powerful as the riding itself. In Upper Mustang, you're not visiting museum pieces or staged cultural shows. You're entering living communities where people still practice Tibetan Buddhism as their ancestors did centuries ago, where medieval architecture serves as functional housing, and where the rhythm of life follows patterns established over a thousand years ago. The walled city of Lo Manthang, founded in 1380, stands today much as it did when it was built, with its Royal Palace, ancient monasteries filled with priceless murals, and narrow cobblestone streets where prayer wheels spin constantly in the wind.

What makes this Upper Mustang motorcycle tour special is the combination of extreme adventure with deep cultural immersion. You'll spend one full day in Lo Manthang without any riding, giving you time to explore the city's monasteries properly, interact with local residents, and understand the unique way of life that has been preserved in this remote corner of the Himalayas. You'll visit Muktinath, one of the most sacred pilgrimage sites in South Asia, revered by both Hindus and Buddhists. You'll ride through Kagbeni, a medieval gateway town where salt traders have been stopping for over a millennium.

The landscapes you'll encounter are unlike anything else on the planet. Upper Mustang sits in the rain shadow of the Himalayan range, creating a high-altitude desert environment with dramatic red and ochre cliffs, deep canyons carved by ancient rivers, and vast expanses of barren plateau that stretch to the Tibetan border. The geological formations tell stories of ancient sea beds lifted to their current heights by tectonic forces, creating layers of sedimentary rock that reveal millions of years of Earth's history.

Amigo Treks and Expeditions has designed this Upper Mustang motorcycle tour with proper acclimatization built into the itinerary. You'll gain altitude gradually over the first several days, giving your body time to adjust before reaching the highest points of the journey. The route includes strategic rest stops, a full exploration day in Lo Manthang, and flexibility to adjust the pace if needed. Our experienced guides know every section of these roads and understand the challenges of high-altitude riding, providing support and expertise throughout the journey.

The tour includes everything you need for a successful adventure. We provide well-maintained adventure motorcycles suitable for Himalayan terrain, all necessary permits, including the expensive Upper Mustang Restricted Area Permit, comfortable accommodation ranging from quality hotels in cities to clean teahouses in remote areas, experienced guides who are local to Nepal and know these routes intimately, mechanical support with a backup vehicle, and comprehensive safety equipment. You'll have breakfast every day, welcome and farewell dinners in Kathmandu, and meals included during the mountain portions of the trip.

This Upper Mustang motorcycle tour operates during the best seasons for riding in the Himalayas. Spring months from March through May offer warming temperatures, clear skies, and blooming rhododendrons at lower elevations, while Upper Mustang remains dry and accessible. Autumn, from September through November, provides the clearest mountain views and most stable weather, making it the most popular season. Because Upper Mustang is protected from monsoon rains by its position in the Himalayan rain shadow, it's actually one of the few regions in Nepal where motorcycle tours remain viable even during the summer monsoon months of June through August.

The physical challenge of this motorcycle tour is rated as moderate to challenging. You need to be comfortable riding motorcycles for extended periods, with previous multi-day riding experience essential. The altitudes involved require good general fitness, though you don't need to be an athlete. Long riding days of four to eight hours, combined with challenging road conditions in remote areas and basic facilities in mountain teahouses, mean this isn't a luxury tour. But suppose you're the type of rider who values authentic experiences over comfortable amenities, who wants to go places that require effort to reach, and who understands that the best adventures come with challenges. In that case, this Upper Mustang motorcycle tour is exactly what you're looking for.

Small group sizes of four to ten riders per tour ensure personalized attention from guides and create a manageable group dynamic on challenging terrain. We welcome solo riders and can arrange private tours for groups of four or more who want to travel together. The itinerary has been refined through years of experience leading motorcycle tours through Upper Mustang, balancing ambitious daily riding goals with adequate rest, cultural exploration, and acclimatization time.

Safety is our top priority on every Upper Mustang motorcycle tour. Our guides carry comprehensive first aid kits and have training in high-altitude emergency response. We maintain satellite communication capability even in the most remote sections of the route. The backup support vehicle provides a safety net if mechanical issues arise or if a rider needs a break from the saddle. Our flexible approach means we can adjust the itinerary if weather conditions, road situations, or rider health concerns require changes to the plan.

When you choose Amigo Treks and Expeditions for your Upper Mustang motorcycle tour, you're supporting responsible tourism that benefits local communities. We use locally-owned teahouses wherever possible, hire local guides and support staff, and ensure that tourism dollars flow directly to the people of Upper Mustang. Our operations are fully licensed by Nepal's tourism authorities, and we maintain all required insurance and safety certifications.

This journey will take you to places that most people will never see, through landscapes that challenge your conception of what Earth looks like, and into cultures that offer perspectives on life very different from the modern world most of us inhabit. You'll return home with more than just photographs and souvenirs. You'll carry memories of riding your motorcycle through the world's deepest gorge with some of Earth's highest peaks towering above you. You'll remember the moment you first saw the medieval walls of Lo Manthang rising from the desert plateau. You'll think about conversations with local people who welcomed you into their homes and shared butter tea while explaining traditions passed down through countless generations.

The Upper Mustang Motorcycle Tour with Amigo Treks and Expeditions is a journey for riders who understand that the best adventures require leaving comfort zones behind, who value authentic cultural experiences over tourist attractions, and who want to ride motorcycles in places that remain wild, remote, and genuinely challenging. If that sounds like the kind of adventure you're seeking, then this tour through the Last Forbidden Kingdom is waiting for you.

Day 2:Test Ride around Kathmandu

Elevation: 1,300m | Riding Distance: 50km | Accommodation: Hotel

After a hearty breakfast, you'll be introduced to your motorcycle for the adventure ahead. Our experienced mechanics will provide a thorough briefing on the bike's features, maintenance tips, and safety protocols. This comprehensive orientation covers everything from basic controls to advanced riding techniques specific to Himalayan terrain.

Take your first test ride through Kathmandu's bustling streets, navigating through the organized chaos of traffic that includes everything from sacred cows to colorful buses, rickshaws, and countless motorcycles. This practice session is crucial for familiarizing yourself with local driving conditions, traffic patterns, and road rules, ensuring you're comfortable and confident before heading into the remote mountain regions.

Our guides will accompany you throughout this orientation ride, taking you through various terrain types within the valley - from busy urban roads to quieter rural paths. They'll provide valuable tips on riding techniques, gear selection for different conditions, and how to handle common challenges you'll encounter in the mountains. This day ensures all safety equipment is properly fitted and functional, and allows you to make any necessary adjustments to your bike setup.

The afternoon includes a final gear check, permit verification, and route briefing for the journey ahead. Spend the evening resting and preparing your personal equipment for an early departure the next morning.

Day 3: Drive from Kathmandu to Pokhara

Elevation: 822m | Riding Distance: 200km | Duration: 6-7 hours | Accommodation: Hotel

Begin your mountain adventure with an early morning departure from Kathmandu, riding through the bustling outskirts of the capital before entering the scenic countryside that defines Nepal's Middle Hills region. The route follows the Prithvi Highway, a winding mountain road that offers spectacular views of terraced hillsides, traditional villages, and rushing rivers. As you climb out of the Kathmandu Valley, the landscape transforms from urban sprawl to lush green hills dotted with traditional Nepali houses built in the distinctive style with red clay roofs and white-washed walls. Stop at Malekhu for a traditional riverside lunch featuring fresh fish from the Trishuli River, a local specialty that has been prepared the same way for generations.

Continue riding through charming hill stations like Mugling, where the Trishuli and Marsyangdi rivers converge, creating a spectacular natural junction surrounded by terraced fields and traditional villages. The road winds through dense forests of rhododendron, oak, and pine trees, with occasional glimpses of snow-capped peaks in the distance. As you approach Pokhara, the majestic Annapurna and Dhaulagiri mountain ranges come into view, creating a stunning backdrop for the beautiful lake city. Upon arrival in Pokhara, check into your lakeside hotel and enjoy the serene atmosphere of Phewa Lake, where you can take a peaceful boat ride to the Tal Barahi Temple situated on a small island in the middle of the lake, or simply relax on the lakeside promenade watching the reflection of the Annapurna range in the calm waters.

Day 4: Drive from Pokhara to Jomsom

Elevation: 2,720m | Riding Distance: 155km | Duration: 6-7 hours | Accommodation: Hotel/Teahouse

This is where your high-altitude adventure really starts. You'll leave the subtropical warmth of Pokhara behind and head into the dramatic landscapes of the Annapurna region. The route initially follows the scenic road alongside the Modi River before turning north toward Beni, a bustling market town that serves as the administrative center of the Myagdi district.

The road gradually climbs through traditional Gurung and Magar villages, where you'll witness the daily life of mountain communities that have adapted their lifestyle to the challenging terrain over countless generations. As you continue climbing, the landscape becomes increasingly dramatic, with the road carved into steep cliff faces and crossing numerous suspension bridges over roaring mountain rivers.

The vegetation changes from lush subtropical forests to temperate pine and rhododendron forests, and eventually to alpine scrubland as you gain altitude. Pass through Tatopani, famous for its natural hot springs, before continuing the challenging ascent through the Kali Gandaki Gorge - the world's deepest gorge, with Dhaulagiri and Annapurna peaks rising nearly 6,000 meters above the riverbed on both sides.

Arrive in Jomsom, the administrative headquarters of Mustang district and a major hub on the Annapurna Circuit. This bustling town sits at the confluence of ancient trade routes and serves as the gateway to Upper Mustang. The town offers relatively comfortable accommodation with heated rooms, hot showers, and good dining options - a welcome respite before venturing into more remote territory. The constant wind that characterizes Jomsom typically picks up in the afternoon, so arriving early allows you to settle in comfortably.

Spend the evening exploring Jomsom's main street, visiting local shops selling Tibetan handicrafts and traditional items, and acclimatizing to the higher altitude. The town's airport, one of the world's most challenging due to extreme winds, provides interesting plane-watching opportunities.

Day 5: Drive Jomsom to Muktinath and Back to Kagbeni

Elevation: Muktinath 3,710m, Kagbeni 2,810m | Riding Distance: 65km | Duration: 4-5 hours | Accommodation: Teahouse

You'll head out early in the morning from Jomsom to the sacred site of Muktinath, climbing steadily through an increasingly arid landscape. The route takes you through Ekle Bhatti and Jharkot, traditional villages with ancient monasteries and stunning views of the Nilgiri massif. The road conditions become more challenging as you gain altitude, but the incredible scenery and cultural significance of the destination make every bump worthwhile.

Muktinath holds immense religious significance for both Hindus and Buddhists, with the temple complex featuring 108 sacred water spouts and an eternal flame that burns from natural gas seeping through the rocks. Hindu pilgrims believe that visiting Muktinath and bathing in the sacred waters will lead to salvation (moksha), while Buddhists revere the site as one of the 24 Tantric places mentioned in ancient texts.

Spend time exploring the temple complex, observing the daily rituals performed by pilgrims who have traveled great distances to reach this holy site. The temple's unique architecture reflects the harmonious coexistence of Hinduism and Buddhism, with symbols from both religions adorning the same sacred space. The surrounding landscape, with its barren hills and distant snow-capped peaks, creates a mystical atmosphere that enhances the spiritual significance of the location.

After your spiritual experience at Muktinath, begin the descent toward Kagbeni, riding through the increasingly dramatic landscape that marks your entry into the rain shadow region of the Himalayas. The scenery transforms from alpine to high desert, with the Kali Gandaki valley opening up before you in shades of ochre, red, and gold.

Kagbeni, meaning "crow's beak" in the local dialect, is a medieval town that serves as the official gateway to Upper Mustang. Its strategic location at the confluence of the Kali Gandaki and Jhong rivers made it an important stop on the trans-Himalayan trade route. The town's well-preserved medieval character, with narrow cobblestone streets, traditional Tibetan-style architecture, and ancient monasteries, provides a fascinating glimpse into the region's rich history.

Explore the ancient alleys of Kagbeni's old town, visit the red-walled monastery with its prayer wheels and murals, and watch the sunset paint the surrounding cliffs in brilliant colors. The town's position offers spectacular views of the Nilgiri peak towering above. Prepare for an early start tomorrow as you officially enter the restricted Upper Mustang region.

Day 6: Drive from Kagbeni to Lo Manthang

Elevation: 3,840m | Riding Distance: 110km | Duration: 6-7 hours | Accommodation: Teahouse

Today is the most challenging and spectacular riding day of your entire expedition as you journey from Kagbeni directly to Lo Manthang, the ancient capital of Upper Mustang. Cross the official checkpoint marking your entry into the restricted area that was closed to foreigners until 1992 and still requires special permits to visit.

The landscape undergoes a dramatic transformation as you leave the relatively green Kali Gandaki valley and enter the high desert plateau that characterizes the Trans-Himalayan region. The terrain becomes increasingly Tibetan in character, with barren hills painted in shades of red, ochre, and gold, creating a moonscape-like environment that feels otherworldly.

The challenging route winds through narrow gorges, crosses dried riverbeds, and climbs over several high passes. Pass through Chuksang, where you'll cross a bridge over the Kali Gandaki, then continue through Ghami village - famous for having the longest mani wall in Nepal, stretching over a kilometer with thousands of carved prayer stones. Stop briefly here for lunch and to rest, taking time to walk along the impressive mani wall and visit the ancient monastery if time permits.

Continue climbing to cross the Nyi La pass (4,010m), which offers breathtaking panoramic views of the Mustang plateau and distant Himalayan peaks. Descend into another valley before climbing again to reach the Tsarang La pass. The landscape continues to amaze with colorful badlands, deep canyons, and towering cliff formations sculpted by wind and water over millions of years.

As you approach Lo Manthang, the excitement builds when you catch your first glimpse of the medieval city walls rising from the barren plateau like a mirage in the desert. The walled city, founded in 1380 by Ame Pal, has remained virtually unchanged for over 600 years. Its massive earthen walls, narrow gates, and traditional Tibetan architecture create an authentic medieval atmosphere that transports you back in time.

Upon entering through the main gate, you'll be struck by the narrow cobblestone streets, traditional whitewashed houses with flat roofs and colorful prayer flags, and the constant sound of prayer wheels spinning in the wind. Check into your teahouse accommodation and spend the evening exploring the main square, watching local life unfold, and marveling at your achievement of reaching this remote and magical destination.

The city is dominated by the four-story Royal Palace and several ancient monasteries. Rest well tonight after this long and demanding ride - tomorrow you'll have a full day to explore this remarkable place in depth.

Day 7: Explore around Lo Manthang

Elevation: 3,840m | Accommodation: Teahouse

You'll spend this full day exploring the fascinating walled city of Lo Manthang and its surrounding areas, diving deep into the unique culture, history, and spiritual traditions that have been preserved in this remote corner of the Himalayas. With no riding scheduled today, you can fully focus on the cultural and spiritual richness of this extraordinary place.

Begin with a visit to the Royal Palace, a magnificent four-story structure that serves as the residence of the King of Mustang. Though the monarchy was officially abolished in 2008, the royal family continues to hold ceremonial significance. The palace showcases traditional Tibetan architecture with intricate woodcarvings, colorful murals, and ancient artifacts. The rooftop offers spectacular 360-degree views of the city and surrounding landscape.

Explore the three main monasteries within the city walls, each representing different periods of construction and artistic styles:

Thubchen Gompa (15th century) houses some of the most spectacular murals in the Himalayas, with walls covered in intricate paintings depicting Buddhist deities, mandalas, and religious scenes that have been miraculously preserved despite the harsh climate.

Jampa Gompa, dedicated to the future Buddha Maitreya, contains a massive clay statue that nearly touches the ceiling of the three-story building, along with ancient manuscripts written on palm leaves and bark paper.

Chodey Gompa serves as the main assembly hall for the monastic community and features beautiful architectural details including carved wooden columns, ornate ceiling decorations, and a collection of religious artifacts.

In the afternoon, venture outside the city walls to explore the surrounding area. Options include:

  • Visiting the ancient Chhoser Cave complex, featuring multi-story cave dwellings carved into cliffs that served as meditation retreats and homes for centuries
  • Riding or hiking to Namgyal Monastery, perched on a hilltop with stunning views
  • Exploring Tingkhar village, known for its ancient monastery and traditional way of life
  • Discovering hidden valleys where traditional farming is still practiced using ancient irrigation techniques

Interact with local residents who are eager to share their stories and traditions. Visit local artisans who continue to practice traditional crafts such as carpet weaving, thangka painting, and metalwork. The afternoon light in Lo Manthang is particularly magical for photography, with the low sun casting dramatic shadows across the medieval architecture and surrounding landscape.

Spend your evening enjoying the peaceful atmosphere of this remote kingdom, perhaps sharing tea with locals or watching the sunset from the city walls as prayer flags flutter in the constant wind.

Day 8: Drive to Kagbeni

Elevation: 2,810m | Riding Distance: 110km | Duration: 6-7 hours | Accommodation: Teahouse

You'll head back from Lo Manthang to Kagbeni today, retracing your route through the spectacular Upper Mustang landscape. The ride back offers opportunities to see familiar vistas from new perspectives and notice details you might have missed on the way up. The changing light throughout the day transforms the appearance of the red cliffs, canyons, and distant peaks.

Stop at viewpoints along the route to capture photographs and take in the vast panoramic views of the Trans-Himalayan plateau. Consider taking short detours to explore side valleys, ancient caves, or small monasteries you may have bypassed on your outward journey. The descent from the high passes is exhilarating, with sweeping views opening up as you drop into each successive valley.

Pass back through Ghami, where you can spend more time at the impressive mani wall and monastery if you wish. The route continues through Chuksang and back across the checkpoint marking the border of the restricted Upper Mustang region. As you re-enter the Kagbeni area, notice how the landscape gradually shows more signs of vegetation and human cultivation compared to the barren high desert you've been traveling through.

Arrive in Kagbeni with a deeper appreciation for this gateway town and its historical significance. You may have time to explore areas of the old town you missed before, visit local shops for handicrafts, or simply relax in a café reflecting on your incredible Upper Mustang experience. The evening in Kagbeni feels different now - you've completed the main objective of the expedition and carry the memories of Lo Manthang with you.

Celebrate your successful exploration of the hidden kingdom with your fellow riders over dinner, sharing stories and photographs from the past few days.

Day 9: Drive to Tatopani

Elevation: 1,190m | Riding Distance: 90km | Duration: 6-7 hours | Accommodation: Hotel

Today's ride takes you from the high desert environment of Kagbeni and Upper Mustang back into the lush, green landscapes of the lower Kali Gandaki valley, providing a dramatic ecological transition that showcases the incredible diversity of Nepal's mountain regions. The descent from Kagbeni follows the ancient caravan route along the Kali Gandaki River.

Pass back through Jomsom, where you can stop for refreshments and fuel if needed, then continue descending through the world's deepest gorge. As you lose elevation, notice how the barren, wind-swept hills gradually give way to terraced fields, forests of pine and rhododendron, and eventually to subtropical vegetation that thrives in the warmer, more humid conditions of the lower valley.

The road conditions vary throughout the descent, with some sections requiring careful navigation due to the winding nature and dramatic elevation changes. Stop at traditional villages along the way where you can observe agricultural practices and terraced farming systems that have sustained mountain communities for centuries. Pass through Kalopani and other villages you may have visited on the way up.

Arrive in Tatopani, whose name literally means "hot water" in Nepali, referring to the natural hot springs that have made this village a popular stop for trekkers and travelers for decades. The hot springs, with temperatures reaching up to 40 degrees Celsius, are believed to have therapeutic properties that help relieve muscle fatigue and joint pain.

Spend the evening soaking in the naturally occurring pools beside the river, allowing the mineral-rich waters to rejuvenate your body after days of challenging riding through high-altitude terrain. The relaxing atmosphere, combined with the lush green surroundings and the sound of the rushing Kali Gandaki River, provides the perfect setting for reflection on your Upper Mustang adventure. The dramatic drop in altitude from 2,810m to 1,190m will be noticeable in the warmer air and increased oxygen - your body will thank you for it.

Day 10: Drive to Pokhara

Elevation: 822m | Riding Distance: 120km | Duration: 3-4 hours | Accommodation: Hotel

Continue your descent from the mountains back to the beautiful lake city of Pokhara. The route takes you through a series of ecological zones that demonstrate the incredible biodiversity of the Himalayan region, from the temperate forests around Tatopani to the subtropical vegetation of the lower elevations.

The changing landscape provides countless opportunities for photography and observation of the complex relationships between altitude, climate, and ecosystem development. Pass through Beni and other traditional market towns where you can stop for refreshments and interact with local residents. The road gradually improves as you approach the more developed areas around Pokhara.

Upon arrival in Pokhara, check into your comfortable lakeside hotel - a welcome upgrade after several nights in basic teahouse accommodation. Take advantage of modern amenities like hot showers, comfortable beds, and diverse dining options. The contrast between the remote simplicity of Upper Mustang and the relative luxury of Pokhara's lakeside hotels will be striking.

Spend the afternoon and evening enjoying the attractions of this beautiful city. Options include:

  • Taking a peaceful boat ride on Phewa Lake while watching the reflection of the Annapurna range in the calm waters
  • Visiting the World Peace Pagoda for panoramic views of the lake and surrounding mountains
  • Exploring the vibrant Lakeside area with its restaurants, shops, and cafes
  • Getting a well-deserved massage or spa treatment
  • Simply relaxing by the lake and enjoying the spectacular mountain views

For the adventurous, Pokhara offers additional activities like paragliding, zip-lining, or ultralight flights. Celebrate your successful Upper Mustang expedition with a nice dinner at one of Pokhara's excellent restaurants, enjoying cuisine and comfort after your mountain adventure.

Day 11: Drive to Kathmandu

Elevation: 1,300m | Riding Distance: 200km | Duration: 6-7 hours | Accommodation: Hotel

This is your final day of riding as you make your way from Pokhara back to Kathmandu on the Prithvi Highway. The route offers one last opportunity to enjoy the spectacular scenery of Nepal's Middle Hills, with terraced farmlands, traditional villages, and glimpses of the high Himalayas that have been your companions throughout this incredible journey.

The road conditions and traffic patterns that may have seemed challenging at the start of your trip will now feel manageable thanks to the riding skills and mountain experience you've developed over the past eleven days. Navigate confidently through the winding roads, enjoying the familiar landmarks and rest stops along the route.

Take advantage of stops along the way to purchase final souvenirs and handicrafts from local artisans, sample regional cuisine, and capture last photographs of the Middle Hills landscape. The return journey provides an opportunity for reflection on the experiences, challenges, and discoveries that have made your Upper Mustang motorcycle expedition unforgettable.

Arrive in Kathmandu in the late afternoon or early evening, returning to the bustling energy of Nepal's capital city after spending nearly two weeks in some of the most remote and peaceful places on earth. Check into your hotel and prepare your bikes for return - our mechanics will handle the final inspection and servicing.

Spend the evening celebrating your successful completion of one of the world's most challenging and rewarding motorcycle adventures. Enjoy a farewell dinner with your fellow adventurers and guides at a quality restaurant in Thamel, sharing stories, photographs, and memories while reflecting on the incredible journey you've completed together through the hidden kingdom of Upper Mustang.

This is your last night in Nepal, so make the most of it - perhaps visit Thamel's vibrant nightlife, do some final shopping, or simply relax and soak in the atmosphere of Kathmandu one last time.

Day 12: Departure

Elevation: 1,300m

Your final day in Nepal provides an opportunity to complete any last-minute shopping, visit additional cultural sites in Kathmandu that you may have missed, or simply relax and reflect on the incredible adventure you've completed. Our team from Amigo Treks and Expeditions will assist with your departure preparations, ensuring that all your souvenirs and equipment are properly packed and that you have all the necessary documentation for your international travel.

Depending on your flight schedule, you may have time for a final exploration of Kathmandu's vibrant markets, where you can purchase authentic Nepalese handicrafts, textiles, jewelry, and artwork created by local artisans. Popular areas for shopping include:

If time permits and you're interested, quick visits can be made to nearby sites like the Kathmandu Durbar Square (though partially damaged by the 2015 earthquake, it remains impressive) or the Garden of Dreams, a peaceful neo-classical garden perfect for quiet reflection.

Our representative will provide a comfortable private transfer to Tribhuvan International Airport, ensuring you arrive with plenty of time for check-in and international departure procedures. We recommend arriving at the airport at least 3 hours before international flights.

As you board your flight home, you'll carry with you not only photographs and souvenirs, but also memories of an extraordinary adventure through one of the world's last hidden kingdoms. You've ridden through some of the most challenging and spectacular terrain on earth, experienced ancient cultures that have remained largely unchanged for centuries, and tested your limits in the high Himalayas.

The experiences gained, the people met, and the landscapes witnessed on this journey will stay with you long after you return home. Safe travels, and we hope to welcome you back to Nepal for another adventure in the future!

Upper Mustang Motorcycle Tour – A Journey of a Lifetime!

Ratings:

I recently completed the Upper Mustang Motorcycle Tour with Amigo Treks and Expedition, and honestly, I’m still trying to find the words to describe how incredible the experience was.

From the moment we kicked off the journey, everything felt smooth, well-organized, and stress-free – thanks to the amazing team at Amigo. The bikes were in great condition and handled the challenging terrain like a dream. Riding through the barren cliffs, ancient villages, and wide open Himalayan landscapes felt surreal, like we were part of something timeless.

The route itself was mind-blowing. Every day brought new views, new adventures, and genuine connections with locals. Lo Manthang was a highlight – the walled city felt like stepping into another world. Riding through the Kali Gandaki Gorge, crossing rivers, and passing ancient monasteries made the journey even more spiritual and enriching.

But what really made this trip special was the team. Our guide was more than just a guide – he became a friend. Always looking out for us, sharing stories, checking the bikes, and making sure we were safe and having fun. The support vehicle crew were absolute legends too – they had our backs every step of the way.

I’ve done a few motorcycle trips in different parts of the world, but this one with Amigo Treks and Expedition stands out by far. The mix of culture, adventure, raw beauty, and the personal touch from the team made this an unforgettable ride.

If you’re even thinking about riding to Upper Mustang, stop thinking and go. And do it with Amigo – you won’t regret it.

my friend and I had an amazing experience

Ratings:

My friend and I recently went on a motorbike tour of Upper Mustang with Amigo Treks and Expedition, and we have to say, it was an incredible experience. From the stunning scenery to the fascinating cultural sites, it was a trip that we will never forget.

On the first day, we arrived in Kathmandu and were warmly greeted by an Amigo Treks and Expeditions representative. We were transferred to our hotel, where we had the rest of the day to explore the city on our own.

The following day, we had a full day of sightseeing in the Kathmandu Valley, where we visited some of the most iconic sites in the city, including the Swayambhunath Stupa, Pashupatinath Temple, and Boudhanath Stupa. We also had the chance to test drive our motorcycles and get familiar with them before starting the journey.

On the third day, we started our journey toward Pokhara, a city known for its stunning natural beauty. The drive was breathtaking, and we were already in awe of the scenery.

We continued our journey through the rugged terrain of the Mustang region, making our way to Kalopani on the fourth day. The views were incredible, and we couldn't believe the natural beauty that surrounded us.

One of the highlights of the trip was visiting Muktinath, a sacred place for both Hindus and Buddhists. After spending time there, we made our way back to Kagbeni, a town that sits at the entrance of the Mustang region.

The following day, we drove to Ghami, a small village with a rich history and cultural significance. The highlight of the trip was visiting Lo-Manthang, a fortified city that is home to some of the most fascinating cultural heritage in the region. We spent the day exploring the city and learning about its history.

We had an entire day to explore around Lo-Manthang and take in all of the sights and sounds of this incredible city. From ancient monasteries to beautiful palaces, there was no shortage of things to see and do.

After leaving Lo-Manthang, we continued our journey towards Gilling, a small town that offered a glimpse into the everyday life of the people in the region. We then made our way back to Kagbeni and eventually to Tatopani, a small village known for its natural hot springs, where we could relax and unwind after days of driving.

We then made our way back to Pokhara, where we could take in more of the city's natural beauty and soak up its relaxed atmosphere. The next day, we drove back to Kathmandu, where we had one final night to experience the city's vibrant culture and unique atmosphere.

Overall, my friend and I had an amazing experience on the Upper Mustang motorbike tour with Amigo Treks and Expedition. The itinerary was action-packed, and we got to see some of the most stunning scenery in Nepal. We highly recommend this tour to anyone looking for an adventure in this beautiful country.
