Therefore, for a deeper cultural immersion, the tour includes a visit to traditional Tharu village and an evening cultural show featuring authentic Tharu dance and music.
This 3-day Chitwan Jungle Safari starts and ends in Kathmandu with a drive to and from Chitwan respectively. However, if you want to start the trip from any other cities, such as Pokhara, Bhairahawa (Lumbini), Birgunj, or elsewhere, this can be easily arranged upon request.
Note: If you prefer flying to driving, flight arrangements can be made upon request from Kathmandu and Pokhara.
The best time to take this trip in Nepal is from October to March, with April to June also being favorable. Chitwan Jungle Safari makes a perfect trip for beginner to expert bird watcher, nature photographer, wildlife enthusiasts and families or travelers looking for a calm and enriching activity. This also makes an ideal add-on if you have three extra days in Nepal after your trek, before departing the country.

Day 1: Drive to Chitwan and Explore Chitwan Your journey to Chitwan begins after breakfast at your hotel in Kathmandu (between 7:00AM to 8:00AM). The drive to Chitwan will be in a private vehicle. Depending on the size of your group, transportation will be arranged in a car, jeep, minivan, coaster or luxury bus. The journey is a scenic one, typically taking around 6 hours- though travel time may vary if the highway is affected by construction, natural events, or traffic delays. The route descends from the hills of the Kathmandu Valley into the lush, subtropical plains of the Terai region. This journey, covering approximately 150-170 kilometers (depending on the exact route and your destination in Chitwan), follows the Prithvi Highway for most of the way. The highway, winding through hills, forests and small villages, runs alongside the Trishuli River (famous for whitewater rafting), and passes through notable towns such as Naubise, Malekhu and Mugling. Along the route you’ll be treated to the stunning views of river gorges, suspension bridges, river valleys, dense forest, waterfalls, terraced hillsides, farmlands as well as the roadside shrines and village life. Continuing your drive, you’ll arrive at Mugling- a key junction where the road splits towards Pokhra and Chitwan. Here, you’ll turn south toward Narayanghat and continue on to Chitwan. As you descend into the Terai Plains, the landscape gradually flattens, and the air becomes noticeably warmer and more humid. Soon, you’ll begin to see rice paddies, banana trees and traditional thatched-roof homes, offering a first glimpse of life in the subtropical lowlands. However, along the highway, you’ll also make a stop at one of the roadside rest areas for a meal, a cup of tea/coffee, or simply to stretch your legs and take a short break. Upon arriving at your hotel in Chitwan, you’ll check in, meet your local nature guide, receive a briefing about upcoming activities and enjoy a well-deserved lunch. After lunch, you’ll set out on a guided walking tour of the area surrounding Chitwan National Park, which will primarily take you through nearby villages, offering a glimpse into local life and culture. The walking tour concludes at a scenic sunset viewpoint, where you can relax and take in the beautiful views as the sun sets over the plains. To wrap up the day’s activities, you’ll enjoy a traditional Tharu (indigenous community with unique traditions and dances) cultural show-either before or after dinner. Overnight at your hotel in Chitwan. Meals: Lunch and Dinner Please note: To add some adventure and break up the drive, you have the option to include a short rafting trip on the Trishuli River en route to Chitwan. (Additional charge applicable).
Day 2: Safari in the Chitwan National Park Chitwan National Park in Nepal, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is a wildlife-rich area and home to elusive Bengal tigers, one-horned rhinoceroses, Asian elephants, gharial crocodiles and over 500 species of birds. Therefore, today you will go on a safari to observe and photograph these animals in their natural habitat. Today’s safari includes jeep/elephant (depending on your choice) safari, canoe ride (boat safari) as well as the walking safari. After breakfast at the hotel, depending on your choice, you will either go on a jeep or elephant safari. Elephant safaris are usually 30 minutes to 1 hour inside the buffer zone or the park. Therefore, if you prefer more time in the park, broader wildlife exposure and better safety standards, prefer jeep safari to elephant safari. This safari focuses on terrestrial animals. After jeep or jungle safari, you will get back to the hotel for lunch. In the afternoon, you will go on a boat safari, commonly known as canoe ride that focuses on showcasing especially aquatic (mostly reptiles and amphibians) and bird life. Canoes (often dugout wooden boats) are non-motorized boats that quietly glide down the river, allowing you to see animals without disturbing them, which makes them a sustainable, environmentally low impact boat safari option. On this safari you will be able to spot wildlife such as mugger and gharial crocodiles, rhinos, deer, monkeys and birds, such as kingfisher, egrets, storks, hornbills as well as cormorants as you drift past beautiful forested riverbanks, grasslands and the occasional sandbar ideal for photography. Unlike jeep safari, this offers a tranquil and immersive nature experience. This safari will be followed by a jungle walk and a visit to elephant breeding center. Upon completing these safaris, you will get back to the hotel for dinner and overnight stay. Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner
Day 3: Bird Watching tour and Drive back to Kathmandu Chitwan is bird watcher’s paradise as it houses over 500 species of birds. The best time to spot these birds is either early morning or late afternoon. Therefore, early in the morning, before breakfast, you will go on a guided trip to the birding zones in Chitwan to experience and enjoy the bird watching trip. After spending a few hours on this trip, you will get back to the hotel for breakfast. Your journey back to Kathmandu begins after breakfast in Chitwan. Leaving Chitwan, following the same Prithvi Highway and once again enjoying the scenic highway, you will drive back to Kathmandu in a private vehicle. In Kathmandu , you will be dropped back to your hotel ending the Chitwan Jungle Safari trip with Amigo Treks and Expedition. Meals: Breakfast
