Himalayan Tahr hunting in Nepal is a thrilling and challenging adventure that ranks as one of the top trophy hunting experiences in the country, second only to Blue Sheep hunting. With its majestic appearance, resembling a lion's mane and a bear's gait, the Himalayan Tahr is a coveted alpine trophy for hunters worldwide. Amigo Treks and Expedition offers a 12-day Himalayan Tahr hunting expedition in Nepal, led by experienced professionals to ensure a successful and ethical hunt.
The Himalayan Tahr hunting expedition takes hunters through dense forests, hills, and snow-capped mountains. The journey involves several days of hiking and climbing along steep and rugged trails in search of the elusive Tahr. Physical and mental fitness is essential as the hunt is strenuous and demanding. After completing the necessary paperwork in Kathmandu, a scenic helicopter ride takes hunters to the Dhorpatan Hunting Reserve, followed by a 4 to 5-hour hike to the camping site.
The following day, hunters set out towards the base camp, navigating through lush forests with ascents and descents along the way. Days 4 to 7 are spent patiently waiting for the optimal opportunity to hunt, followed by a small celebration upon a successful kill. The last couple of days involves flying back to Kathmandu, concluding the 12-day Himalayan Tahr hunting expedition.
The hunting blocks in Nepal are divided into seven areas, each with its own regulations and opportunities. These include Surtibang Block, which is exclusively for Himalayan Tahr hunting, Barse Block for Blue Sheep hunting, Fagune Block for both Blue Sheep and Himalayan Tahr hunting, Gustang Block for both Blue Sheep and Himalayan Tahr hunting, Seng Block for both Blue Sheep and Himalayan Tahr hunting, Dogadi Block for both Blue Sheep and Himalayan Tahr hunting, and Sundaha Block for both Blue Sheep and Himalayan Tahr hunting.
The best time for Himalayan Tahr hunting in Nepal is during the spring months of March to April and the autumn months of October to November. Hunters stay overnight in camps during the hunting period, with experienced and professional crew members taking care of camp set-up and meals. Himalayan Tahr hunting in Nepal offers an unforgettable and once-in-a-lifetime experience, combining adventure, challenge, and appreciation for the Himalayan wilderness.
