I recently had the pleasure of taking the Upper Mustang Trek with Amigo Treks and Expedition, and I must say, it was an experience of a lifetime. The company was extremely professional and organized, and I felt completely at ease with them from the moment I arrived in Kathmandu.
The trek itself was challenging, but the stunning scenery and unique culture of the Upper Mustang region made it all worth it. From the ancient monasteries and palaces of Lo-Manthang to the beautiful villages of Charang and Ghaymi, every day of the trek was a new adventure.
One thing I particularly appreciated about Amigo Treks was the care and attention they gave to our safety and comfort. Our guide, porters, and support staff were all knowledgeable and experienced, and they went above and beyond to ensure that we had a safe and enjoyable trek.
I also enjoyed the cultural experiences that were incorporated into the trek, such as the sightseeing in the Kathmandu Valley and the opportunity to interact with the friendly locals in the Upper Mustang region. Here is the route that I took:
Day 1: Arrival in Kathmandu I arrived in Kathmandu and was warmly welcomed by the team of Amigo Treks and Expeditions. They provided me with all the necessary information about the trek and helped me obtain the necessary permits.
Day 2: Kathmandu Valley Sightseeing We spent the day exploring the cultural and historical landmarks of the Kathmandu Valley, including Swayambhunath Stupa, Pashupatinath Temple, Boudhanath Stupa, and Patan Durbar Square.
Day 3: Kathmandu to Pokhara We took an early morning flight to Pokhara, which is the gateway to the Annapurna region. Pokhara is a beautiful city with stunning views of the Himalayas.
Day 4: Pokhara to Jomsom to Kagbeni We took a short flight from Pokhara to Jomsom and then trekked to Kagbeni, which is a small village on the banks of the Kali Gandaki River. The village has a unique mix of Tibetan and Nepalese culture and is the gateway to the Upper Mustang region.
Day 5: Kagbeni to Chele The trek from Kagbeni to Chele was a challenging one, as we had to cross several high passes. However, the stunning views of the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ranges made it all worth it.
Day 6: Chele to Syanbochen The trail from Chele to Syanbochen was a beautiful one, with lush green forests and several waterfalls along the way.
Day 7: Syanbochen to Ghaymi The trek from Syanbochen to Ghaymi was relatively easy, and we got to see the stunning landscape of the Upper Mustang region.
Day 8: Ghaymi to Charang We visited the beautiful and ancient village of Charang, which is known for its stunning architecture and monasteries.
Day 9: Charang to Lo-Manthang We finally reached Lo-Manthang, which is the heart of the Upper Mustang region. The village has a unique culture and is known for its stunning architecture.
Day 10-11: Exploration of Lo-Manthang We spent two days exploring the stunning monasteries, palaces, and temples of Lo-Manthang. We also got to interact with the friendly locals and learn more about their culture.
Day 12: Lo-Manthang to Drakmar We took a different route back to Drakmar, which was a challenging trek. However, the stunning views of the Himalayas made it all worth it.
Day 13: Drakmar to Ghiling The trek from Drakmar to Ghiling was a relatively easy one, and we got to explore several ancient monasteries along the way.
Day 14: Ghiling to Jomsom We trekked to Jomsom and stayed overnight there.
Day 15: Jomsom to Pokhara to Kathmandu We took a flight from Jomsom to Pokhara and then another flight from Pokhara to Kathmandu. In Kathmandu, we celebrated the end of a wonderful trek with Amigo Treks and Expedition.
Day 16: Departure I departed from Kathmandu with unforgettable memories.
