Day 01: Arrival day in Paro

Welcome to Bhutan. At the Paro International Airport, you will be greeted and taken to the hotel by one of the company representatives, assigned to transfer you from the airport to the hotel booked for you in Paro. The ultimate tour of Bhutan starts after a quick refreshment at the hotel. Rinpung Dzong - a Buddhist monastery and fortress of the Drukpa Lineage of the Kagyu school in Paro district, which now accommodates the district Monastic Body and government administrative office of Paro Dzongkhag is the first destination of the day. The tour further continues with a visit to Kichu Lhakhang, the oldest monastery in Bhutan located at a distance of 5 km from Paro Town. The day ends at the hotel only after visiting the last destination of the day - Drugyal Dzong or the Victory Fort built-in 1649, located 14 km north of Paro city. Overnight in a hotel in Paro.

(Highlights of the day: Traditional cantilever bridge followed by interesting artwork on the way to the Dzong; huge fortress exhibiting valuable sculpture and architecture; beautiful shrines and chapels inside the Dzong and the Deyangkha Temple outside the Dzong; amazing view of the seven-storied watchtower fortress -Ta Dzong; Kiychu Lakhang accompanied by beautiful Chortens and  prayer wheels; the ruins of Drugyal Dzong, which was built in the year 1649 to honor the victory over an invasion of Tibet.)

Day 02: Drive to Thimpu. 2350m7710ft- 54km (2 hours)

Today the breakfast will be followed by a half-day excursion of the Taktsang Paphug Monastery (Tiger’s Nest or Paro Taktsang), situated on the edge of the cliff 900 meters above Paro. Approximately 4-5 hours will be spent on the excursion, including lunchtime. The lunch will be served on the way to Taktsang. After the excursion, in the afternoon we will drive to the capital of the country, Thimpu. It takes about 2 hours to reach Thimpu from Paro. The evening will be spent exploring the capital and the lifestyle of people in Thimpu. Overnight in a hotel in Thimpu.

Day 03: Explore Thimpu

After breakfast at the hotel, the entire day will be spent exploring the capital of Bhutan, Thimpu. A day tour of Thimpu starts with a visit to the King’s Memorial Chorten also known as the most visible religious landmark in Bhutan (dedicated to the 3rd King of Bhutan) and continues with other attractions of the capital that include the radio tower, zoo, the Nunnery Temple, the National Library, the Institute of Traditional Medicine, the Textile Museum, the Handicraft  Emporium, the Traditional Paper Factory, and the Tashichho Dzong. The lunch will be served in between. The evening will be spent strolling along the streets of Thimpu. Overnight in a hotel in Thimpu.

(Highlights of the day: The prominent architecture of the Memorial Stupa -built in1974 to honor the third Druk Gyalpo, Jigme Dorji Wangchuk-  and its golden spires, bells and the depiction of bigger than life-size images of furious deities with their female companions in large numbers and many other unambiguous Yab-Yum sexual poses, representations of Avalokitesvara, Manjusri and Vajrapani –three protective bodhisattvas, slates engraved with the images of Gautam Buddha, Ngawang Namgyal and Padmasambhava, prayer wheels, mandalas, shrines and statues dedicated to the third King, teachings of Vajrakilaya, Drukpa Lineage of the Kagyu school and Lama Gongdu; magnificent view of the Thimpu Valley and the Thimpu Dzong form the radio tower; collection of variety of animals including the national animal of Bhutan,Takin, in the zoo; ancient manuscripts in the National Library; the exhibition of herbs, minerals, precious metals, gems and animal part in the Institute of Traditional Medicine; the architecture of Tashichho Dzong and the beautiful temples, chapels and shrines within.)

Day 04: Thimpu to Punakha. 1250m/4000 ft]: 76 km/ 3 hrs

Breakfast at the hotel and today’s tour starts with a road trip to Punakha. It’s an amazingly scenic ride on a coiled narrow street on steep slopes, which takes a break at the Dochu La Pass (3,100m) for you to enjoy the amazing Himalayan views in Bhutan. The trip further continues through the forest of Rhododendron and then the rice field, along the river bank to Punakha. On reaching Punakha, you will be taken to the second oldest and the largest Dzong in Bhutan, the Punakha Dzong (the Palace of Great Happiness). After exploring this Dzong, situated at the confluence of Pho Chu and Mo Chu (rivers), you will be transferred to the hotel in Punakha for an overnight stay.

(Highlights of the day: Thrilling, narrow, curved road accompanied by the beautiful view of mountains, rivers, rhododendron and fir forest hills, small villages, and farmhouses; magnificent view of the Himalayas and carefully planned exhibition of 108 chortens from the Dochula pass; the majestic architecture of Punakha Dzong, traditional cantilever bridge, memorials of 23 deceased people who died due to glacial flood in1994 (outside the Dzong); images, Thangkas, gilded 18th-century statues of Buddha, Guru Rinpoche and Zhabdrung and the relics of the southern Drukpa Lineage of the Kagyu school and Ngawang Namgyal  (inside the Dzong).)

Day 05: Punakha to Gangtey and back to Punakha. 2900m/9280ft]-Punakha: 85Km/3-4 hrs

Starting with breakfast at the hotel, the tour continues…Today’s destination is the Gangtey Monastery, a 17th-century monastery, located in the Wangdue Phodrang district, surrounded by Gangtey village 85 km east of Punakha. Therefore, we drive to Gangtey, through the forest of oak and rhododendron. After exploring the monastery, we visit the winter home of black-necked cranes, the fascinating valley of Phobjikha. Having completed the exploration of the village and the valley, we will drive back to Punakha for an overnight stay. Overnight in a hotel in Punakha.

Day 06: Drive to Paro. 130km/4 hrs

Breakfast at the hotel and bidding farewell to Punakha, we will head towards Paro via Dochula Pass. On the way, we stop to visit Chimi Lakhang, a fertility temple dedicated to Divine Madman or Lama Drukpa Kuenley. The lunch will be served in Thimpu after which, the drive continues towards Paro for an overnight stay. Overnight in a hotel in Paro.
