Visa-Free Travel to China: What It Means for Global Tourists.

With China’s expanded visa-free travel policy, China has officially opened its door wider to the world. Now, citizens from 43 countries can enter China without a visa and can stay up to 30 days visa-free. The latest updated list was made public on their official website on 6th June 2025.

What’s the New Visa-Free Policy?

The Chinese government has extended visa-free entry to ordinary passport holders from 43 countries. Thus the eligible travelers to China can now stay up to 30 days in China, without applying for a visa in advance. This travel policy has been in effect since June 1, 2025. 

Which countries can travel to China without a visa in 2025?

Here is the list of total 43 countries whose citizens are now eligible to enjoy visa-free access to China:

Brunei, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, the Netherlands, Malaysia, Switzerland, Ireland, Hungary, Austria, Belgium, Luxembourg, New Zealand, Australia, Poland, Portugal, Greece, Cyprus, Slovenia, Slovakia, Norway, Finland, Denmark, Iceland, Andorra, Monaco, Liechtenstein, Korea, Bulgaria, Romania, Croatia, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Malta, Estonia, Latvia, Japan, Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Peru and Uruguay. 

Is China expanding visa-free entry?

Yes, China is expanding visa-free entry. Prior to this, the list only contained 38 countries. Also, as per the notice published on their official website on 27th May 2024, six countries – France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain and Malaysia, were added to the list on a trial basis. Therefore, from  1st December, 2023 to 30th November, 2025, citizens from these countries holding ordinary passports were exempted from Visa to enter China and stay for up to 15 days.

Moreover, now five countries – Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Peru and Uruguay from South America have been added to the visa-free access list, making it 43 countries in total.

Can Aussies travel to China visa-free?

The list includes only four countries – Japan, Malaysia, Brunei and Korea- from Asia and two countries- Australia and New Zealand from Oceania. Therefore, Aussies can travel to China visa-free.

Do Europeans need a Chinese visa?

The 32 European countries mentioned above do not need visa to enter China. However, apart from these European counties, citizens of other European nations need a Chinese visa to enter China.

Travelers holding ordinary passports from these 43 countries are eligible for a visa exemption to enter China for up to 30 days, provided their visit is for purposes such as business, tourism, family or friend visits, exchange or transit.
