7 deals that should be avoided by a Tourist in Nepal

Nepalese are most famous among tourists for their kindness, generosity, and their hospitality. However, this might not be applicable in bigger cities like Kathmandu and Pokhara. The moment you exit the airport, you will be surrounded by people offering their services and most often with an intention to scam you. Here we listed out 9 deals that should be avoided by the Tourist in Nepal.

Avoid those trying to help you carry your bag:

After seeing your agent at the airport upon your arrival, you will follow him to the car. While walking towards your car, some people may approach you to carry your bag. They do this in the hope to get a tip. So please avoid them by saying no.

Avoid those who say the hotel doesn’t exist:

Sometimes the taxi driver may say that the hotel you want to go to doesn’t exist or he may say he doesn’t know where the hotel is located. They do this for a commission they get from the other hotels where they plan to take you. For avoiding this, before you get into the taxi, ask the driver to call your hotel and confirm the location.

Avoid the tour offered by others:

When you take a taxi to the airport, most often another man would also try to take a drive in the same Taxi. Generally, he will be from a company trying to sell his tour. So avoid these people by not letting them drive with you. The taxi has a taxi driver and no one else.

Avoid Hashish seller in Thamel:

Almost all tourists walking in Thamel must have been bothered by hashish sellers. Please don’t buy from them. It’s illegal.

Avoid people who promise to guide a tour for free:

Sometimes when you are visiting Kathmandu and Patan Durbar Square, people might come to you and offer free guidance services. Please don’t accept it. They will demand money in the end.

Avoid beggars asking to buy milk for their children:

Thamel in Kathmandu and Lakeside in Pokhara are the places where you will find woman beggars carrying their kids and asking you to buy milk for them. If you agree, they will take you to the supermarket and buy an expensive milk powder and later on return it back to the store for half money.

Avoid extra money at Immigration:

If you need to extend your visa and you go to the immigration office for the same, you will find people asking to help you do it in a short time period and will demand extra charge. Just avoid them; it will take the same time even if it’s done by you.
