Jomsom Muktinath Trek or simply the Jomsom Trek, in the lower Mustang region of Nepal is one of those treks in Nepal that greets trekkers with variety in terms of landscape, vegetation, and the culture and lifestyle of people in Nepal.

Starting Nayapul, the trek to Jomsom, Muktinath offers the opportunity to walk on the Tibetan plateau conquering the altitude of almost 3,800m passing through well-cultivated terraced fields, indigenous villages, rhododendron forest, world’s deepest gorge (at Dana) of Kali Gandaki River in between Annapurna and Dhaulagiri (rising above 8000m), Apple orchards and finally, treeless, dry and arid land of the lower Mustang region.

Poon Hill - the best viewpoint of Dhaulagiri and Annapurna range in the entire Annapurna region, Kaagbeni – a gateway to the forbidden Kingdom of Mustang filled with prayer wheels, Chortens and Buddhist monastery, Muktinath – a god of salvation for Hindus and a place of nirvana for Buddhist featuring 108 holy water spouts, Vishnu and Jwala Mai temple – featuring gas fires, Marme Lakhang and Gonde Gompa (centuries-old monastery), settlements like Ghasa, Marpha, Jomsom and fossils in the bank of Kali Gandaki River are some of the major highlights of Jomsom Muktinath trekking. It’s an opportunity to enjoy the panoramic view of Annapurna, Dhaulagiri, and Nilgiri, while getting acquainted with the lifestyle and the hospitality of Gurung, Thakali, and Sherpa people. Relax your tired muscles in a natural hot spring at Tatopani!

Moreover, a standard 13 Day Jomsom Muktinath trek itinerary designed by Amigo Treks and Expedition allows you to enjoy all of these highlights while making you walk through a part of 20 day Annapurna Circuit Trek. Any person with a moderate fitness level can opt for this trek; however, on request the days, cost, and requirements can be customized. Upper Mustang Trek (16days), Annapurna Base Camp Trek (16 days), and Ghorepani, Poonhill Trek (10 days) are some of the best packages offered by Amigo Treks and Expedition in the Annapurna region of Nepal. All the packages include a full board meal during the trek along with a 100% departure date, a complementary map, and the best group discount offers.

As Jomsom, Muktinath lies in the rain-shadow area, the trek can be planned at any time of the year. However, planning this trek between March-May and September-December is considered more fulfilling. Starting with 7 hours scenic drive from Kathmandu to Pokhara and then 2 more hours drive to Nayapul, the journey ends with a flight, first from Jomsom to Pokhara and then from Pokhara to Kathmandu.
